Pics?!
The biggest issue with sev is that they are from different water params in nature but compatibility can work. Really going to be individual based. Honestly convict or relatives is probably the safest option.
Ok working on better pictures as the JD is still small but I have one it’s turning in a log with the flash you can see all the blue then another from last week taken with a little distance and I can see the fish in the tank LOL ? finally from a good 10-12 feet away!
I really hope it keeps a darker coloring

Could still go either way on gender.
They stay dark in dark surroundings, so it should keep a nice black coloration.
That’s great to hear on both actually because I am starting to enjoy the mystery and who’s to say males may start with round fins I know it’s cauldron (sp.) fin the tail was different from most in the tank

Well see that is exactly what I am thinking right now because as I look at the fish now every fin is pointed no blue dot on near or around jawline and I am honestly starting to lean towards male if so this guy’s name will become Dexter the Killer JD LOL ?

Do I wait it out?? If it’s 2 females will they co habitat and if not well one is chasing the other earlier they were swimming together the fins are the same one fish is just lighter the 2nd one do I just add 3 more random now and try to get the pair or grow a few out later for a female??? And pick one of these or just let nature take its course here?? I don’t know ?‍♀️….. I do trust your advice!!!!

If you want a pair it’s usually recommended to get 6 or more. Most likely if you add just 1 the more dominant one (the one that’s been in the tank longer) would just chase the newcomer and stress it out. With more fish the aggression disperses and balances out. That way one fish wouldn’t just take a beating.

So what do I do now?? I’m already deep in my husband’s so mad and tired of my trips to the pet store it’s a bit of a drive…..
So I mean I got nature…. Don’t like
Convince him that I need to add more and let my dominant one find a mate. If that works
Or take little number 2 back??
If they both turn out to be female could they live together is my 1 question?? As well can you help with my best choice and then 2nd best and if 2 female can co habitat??

Honestly with cichlids it’s a hit or miss. 2 females can work but you’d need to have a lot of cover and structure to establish territories between them.
