Bad pic of a tocatins

Mmm, that tocatins looks like he's in too cool of water from the pits in his forehead.

Problem with IDing geophagus is almost all of them look exactly the same.

I know i got him from a friend like that he has a female that is a little smaller and in pefect condition.

Same fish, your bottom one that you're labelling as a tocantins is just not showing as vibrant colours due to it's condition.

Compare this photo of my altifrons cf. 'Rio Tocantins' with your "areos".

Note the fluorescent operculum markings, the two fluorescent markings under the eyes, and the pelvic and caudal fin markings. Mines a fair bit smaller but you can still see how it's the same fish.

HITH should disappear quickly with raised temperatures, I noticed the same injuries showing up in my orange heads when they were kept in anything under 82 degrees.

Good luck finding these for anything under $13 a peice at 1"...

they are actually doing really good, you were right about them being too darn fast for pictures! i think they will be beautiful in another month or so though :).

i can't really get a good one of the alpha male with his orange head already developing but here are some of the smaller ones..
