Good luck to all

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah there are some people around here that just want to be rude and I fully get what wvdiscus is saying about being hesitant to post bc of those people. It really gets my ptsd going when someone hides behind technology and decides to be disrespectful and I too thought about leaving this site on a number of occasions. But, the way I see it there are a ton of good people on here and its always good to share and connect with them. So I stayed and I really enjoy mfk. And remember to try and treat the people being rude with compassion. Who knows what might be going on in their life and acting like a douche online might be the only way to vent their frustrations either consciously or not. Just smile brother.

stay.. you will learn as you go who is the right ones to befriend and who is not... weed them out.. make it fun.. do not let this bump discourage your times on mfk... we need good people..

Hello; You are of the moderator group. Can you comment on the notions stated in this thread that that some members will cause another member to be "slamed beyond belief" and that "this is a monster fish forum and a monster fish includes a MONSTER TANK!!". This is not the only thread where these two things in particular and other somewhat similar rude or insulting statements have been made. These negative example are not rare nor uncommon on this forum.
My question is what is the policy of the people, including yourself, running this forum with regard to the slamming, insulting and other offensive language sometimes found on the forum? I know that you cannot read each of the many posts each day, but what do you and the other moderators intend to do when you find this sort of thing or have it pointed out to you? You are the first moderator to show up on this thread, so you get the question.
May I also ask how a member is to "... weed them out.. make it fun.. " once he/she has been slammed or insulted?? I have had both done to me several times and it is in no way fun. I try to not respond in kind, but it is bothersome. I would not allow someone to insult me to my face without some sort of recourse. I know how to take it as I was a public school teacher and was forced to. I do not allow personal insults in my face to face private life and took all measures allowed when insulted in my teaching career. I witnessed the result when standards were relaxed in the public schools, I do seriously hope that you do not wish that sort of atmosphere become common on this forum.
This thread is about a member leaving the forum due to some sort of insult. Again I ask what is the policy of the moderators? Are we to have a verbal free for all? Can I and others expect that members who are insulting or take part in "slamming" be banned or in some other way be stopped from posting such offensive language??

ThiS is an online forum not a church group, we come here ... to vent... and if its to offensive to you then theres plenty of other fish forums.

F1VET: Actually, in this forum "vent"ing is to figure out if something is male or female :nutkick:
.. some guys do constantly verify their junk in public, but it will never stop being an awkward moment. :nono:
As for getting explosive, there is a special place called the 'shooting range'. IN forum, we can start our very own thread for that.

 it's only words... be open minded. and yes, I did notice that you lightened up after that post.
I used the quote to make a point, not an argument.

Asking a question with no posts makes you look like a newb. I know I got my head bit off over some basic things. Forums in general are full of people who care, sometimes too much. take it all with a grain of salt.

imo people who make declrations about "leaving" a forum are pretty lame lol

Im so confused...

I was only warning ppl if they dont want to be SLAMMED by others then dont keep moster fish in tiny tanks OR DONT TELL US TO BEGIN WITH. Look at my 2nd post! Cruel is cruel but when i read posts like that i say maybe upgrade to a bigger size, im not one of the unproductive members saying "wow your fish will die and so should u!"

Ive only been here a few months but im always giving adequate advice that i have already learned myself! As ive been in the hobby a few years

And the same happens when i need to ask you all a question! But there is always someone who needs to add there 2 cents and not help the OP with his/her question, so just ignore them or dont read it!

I guess you mistook what i said in my 1st post on this thread but hopefully now you understand my intentions!

Live learn grow

R.i.p to my Uncle Ron who has passed away today.

Godbless

F1 VET,
Exactly what I said before: "...Since everything is typed, it's hard to know the 'tone' of communication..."

~Apologies for over doing the humor about your post~ no harm intended on my part either. sometimes I can run a joke right into the ground.

Godbless you, condolences about your uncle... and may the original posters headache go away too! (Nicole)

Since I joined this forum I've seen a number of members leaving because of the WAY they were talked to, or making posts complaining about it. I agree that there should be no excuse to verbally assaulting someone no matter what they stated or whatever way they keep their fish. Give ur oppinion and advice if u like, in a polite manner.
I suggest that a button banning a certain member from ever replying on ones threads is to be incorporated in to the site. That way an offensive member will be in time excluded with the majority of bans to reply to other members threads.
We all made mistakes when we were starting out and I'm pretty sure almost everyone makes a mistake from time to time. Like it was said before there are kids joining this site, starting out and they get chased off with rude replies. I urge the moderators of this site to consider a " ban this member from replying to my threads" button
