Growing up blue

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So today both my JDs are staying very close to each other and they are hiding out behind a tree stump in some java ferns, I cannot see what they are doing back there....hoping this might be the eggs I’ve been waiting for :-)

I fed them today and they didn’t rush out to eat like usual, they did pop out quick to snag a pellet each but then rushed back to their hiding spot, I see the males head as he’s watching out

If they are guarding eggs, they are not very aggressive that’s for sure, I would have expected the male to chase all other fish away not hid with the female, so this leads me to believe they do not have eggs!!

I was hoping if they choose to lay eggs they would use the flower pot I provided so I can sneak a peek (it’s in the back of the tank facing the back away from all fish!!) but they avoid it like the plague

Keep a close eye out. Hiding out isn't typical of new parents. They're usually rather aggressive and out and about.

You take really great pics!

Thank you!! These are my favourite fish, I’m kind of holding a grudge about them not breeding for me haha

I’ve confirmed there are no eggs!!

Tomorrow I should be picking up a gold/pink female... either that will throw my tank out of its peaceful harmony or she will join the peaceful gang....

I’m hoping he will be forced to choose a lady from the two....my fry raising 33g tank is empty right now so I have a backup plan!!

Ya, the tail looks like she might have recovered from some fin rot, but she looks very good now. Hope she pairs with your EBJD :).

Are there any other JDs in the tank?

When I have problems with a pair bonding, I'll throw in a smaller male into the tank. Beware, the smaller male will get really beat up if they pair up, so he'll need plenty of hiding places.

There are two females for him to choose from now, a regular jd and the pink lady, so I’m hoping she entices him to make a lady choice!!

Do you think I should remove one female and put a male in with him and a female??
