Growing up blue

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'd give them a little time - a week or two. Let's see how they do. Crossing my fingers for ya!
Sounds like a plan!!!

Ebjd def wants to mate, he keeps tail slapping, flaring, and shimmying for both females....neither seem to interested yet, my original female seems to want to keep the pink away from the ebjd but she seems uninterested in him in general, she will sit with him and when he tries to impress her she swims awkwardly away leaving him alone

She is a pretty girl. Hopefully he will spawn with both and give you lots of variety!

I have had pretty decent luck when I have two females in with one male. Give it some time. What are you feeding and how often?

They get fed everyday, mostly omegaone pellets as their main staple, they eat some of the flakes I put in for the mollies and tetras, they also get frozen blood worms for two days in a row then a break then two days again. Every so often I feed them some algae wafers. They don’t have a fasting day.

Wow I am grateful for this thread. It was like a movie. I spent almost an hour reading. I'm surprised that you raised that male to be so big. That is a heavy task in itself. Im very excited to see how this progresses.
I’m glad you have enjoyed this thread. The updates are getting further and further apart as there’s little progress these days.

All three JDs are living like it’s threes company (you may be to young to get that reference)

I will continue to try and find my blue boy a mate and will keep posting pics of him

This pic wa stakes at dinner time, it’s kind of messy as I’m feeding a little more food for the pink JD, she’s just took her first pellet today and is learning to eat the pellets now and she is slow....

When I am trying to get them in the mood to breed, I feed them a lot - two to three times a day. Sometimes I feed them and then when their food is all gone I dump in some brine shrimp for desert. Sometimes if feed the brine shrimp like that a few nights in a row. Then I will do some big water changes every couple days. To me it seems like when the female is about ready to spawn she will become disinterested in eating. When I notice that, I don’t feed the next morning before I leave for work. On several occasions there have been eggs when I have gotten home that day. These are just my experiences in case you want some more ideas.

That is a good idea, I only feed once a day.

Maybe I should bump it up to 2x a day for a bit...I’ve been working a lot and sometimes haven’t been able to keep up my water changes, last week I ended up doing three on that tank bc I wasn’t sure when I would get a chance to do one again lol....be lucky if I can do one on it this Saturday/sunday....

And my pink female just started eating a couple of days ago, she is either picky or just settling in.

I do appreciate suggestions, sometimes I feel like I’ve tried everything haha always nice to have others chim in with their successful methods!!!

Here are a couple of videos I took tonight of the JDs
They do this several times a day. They will all hover in one spot in a group and barely move, it will last for 5-15 mins before my male retreats back into his cave. Sometimes they swim away from each other but then the other follows them back and they are in a group again. I think they might be sizing each other up.
