Growing up blue

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Today is a negative update, since moving my two EBJDs into their own tank they have stopped eating, and are much less active, they just hide whenever they can. They have also darkened to the point of being almost black.

I have tried mysis, sprulina (sp?) shrimp, flakes, algae waffers, and three kind of Cichlid pellets....no go.

I’m not sure what I can do for them, I used seasoned media from my other filters, I have added plants, caves, driftwood, floating plants, I have been changing 50% of their water either daily or every second day....

They seem to not like change.

My other ebjd that stayed in the 75g tank is doing fantastic. Even grew a bit a believe.

check temp? add a little more dechlorinator. Do they have adequate hiding places?
Temp is between 82-84.

I’ve also added a dark background to make them feel less out in the open, added a bunch of plants, plants on drift wood, and two rock caves...I’m away for the weekend but when I get back I’m going to put some baby molly dry in the tank, some food is better than no food, maybe go buy some expensive love shrimp see if that encourages them to eat...I’m at a loss really, they are healthy or were healthy when they went in, I’m sure refusing food isn’t helping.

Can you buy live brine shrimp locally? If you can get some, then then in a bowel and crush up some algae wafers until their dust. Then powder the top of the water of the brine shrimp with it. Let it sit for abit while they filter feed. Then after a while scoop some out and put them in the tank.

I haven’t seen a cichlid yet completely reject live brine shrimp. Even when they where sick or had parasites. They love the things

I would try to lower those temps. Should be in the mid 70s.

Not sure if I can get them live, though I do have them frozen that we’re feed with spruinla (spelling?)...one will mouth them but spit them out, the other doesn’t even show and interest.

Thank you, I will try this. How does 76-78 sound? (My 75g tank they came from was the same temperature of 82-84)

Sounds good. Just something else to try, hope it helps. Probably more in the long term then now.
I don’t use heaters in my C.A. tanks. Only when it’s really cold.

I’m really open to try anything at this point, I have to use heaters, if not room temperature is around 68 in the tanks.

Finally got them to eat today, I’m thinking my lights on the fish tank might be too bright....I **** them off and fed them and they came right out to eat.
