Healing open wounds

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thats great that the tank is cycled but also kind of sucks. Had it not been maybe we could have assumed it got infected due to high ammonia/nitrites...smh he looks active. Maybe you should pot this in the health and disease section to get alittle more exposure

Thanks for reminding me again J jaws7777 . Needed the extra push. :)

Just finished a full duration of tetra sulfa in 4 doses (and followed the directions on the package;)). However, I've kept him in the QT tank with the doses still in there(I did the 25% final water change) for an additional two days. Directions say "add new carbon/replace carbon in the tank," however I'm running a sponge filter..... Wound looks a lot better(not as bright red), but still open. Wanted to ask before I do anything. His color looks better too, though he's still lethargic.

1)leave him in the QT with the 4 doses still in the water. Even though it has been the duration of treatment+ 2 days?

2) leave him in the QT, but do 100% WC with salt?

3) leave him in the QT, 100% WC and then another round of treatment?

4) put him back in the main tank with aquarium salt?

5) methyl blue dip?

6) other recommendation?

wound is still indented and open, but not as swollen or is red. Now it is more of a brownish color. Took a pic with the flash on for detail( he wasn't happy about it).

wound is darker in real life and still indented in his body, but can't tell from picture. Swelling and redness has definitely gone down!

Looks better. With swelling and redness down....good sign. Keep that water clean.

The fish does look better. As kno4te kno4te said 'Keep that water clean'

As to a MB dip... I dont think that does much but a MB bath does work well. The dye will usually show on dead, or diseased flesh but not on healthy tissue. Ive had good success with the MB bath treatment of fish that were shipped and suffered from ammonia burn and fin rot. It stopped it in its tracks and let it heal. At this point it cant hurt the ornate and can actually stimulate for higher oxygen absorption. Well it doe in regular fish, polys might be different but still should help with that wound.

It does help like the things mentioned by DMD123 DMD123 . It's especially useful as a quarantining agent with new fish. It does help with wounds to try and prevent bacteria from growing. It has its place for sure.

Thank you! When you say keep the water clean, do you mean in the quarantine tank(tank he's in)? I've been doing 25% WC every 2 days. Keep doing that? How much longer should I keep him in separate QT, until the wound heals completely?

The main tank water is still cloudly.(probably from the sand and driftwood I just put in). Going to buy some rid-X and do some more water changes in it before I put him back.

Thanks DMD123 DMD123 , should I do the methyl bath in the QT? Do I need to do a 100% water change before adding? there's still 4 doses of triple sulfa in the tank

Looking good, i would just leave him in thq qt and do 20% wc everyday, much easier to change water in a smaller tank.
Thank you! I think you were right about it being a burn.

it definitely is! A lot easier :] takes like two seconds haha

Use the MB as a dip. Much easier and will be able to control.

Continue with the triple sulfa.

Keep the water clean...meaning make sure ur ammonia is 0, nitrite is 0, and nitrate is less than 20.

Make sure the cloudiness in the main tank isn't from a bacterial bloom and check those parameters.

Look forward to seeing the ornate better.
