Help getting oscars to breed.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have fed them crickets in the past im gonna try tht and have fed krill but its so expensive its 20$ for a can that would last me a week or 2

Trust me on this one, it's much cheaper to order fish food on amazon. Especially with prime, rather than lfs. You should only give the Oscars a few krill every other day as a booster. I thought pigs where the only things i would consider a hog, until i first bought an Oscar. Beautiful fish, just greedy af. :)

Ur right I do buy foods on amazon krill is still expensive and mine were greedy bastards but ever since they started breeding they have less interest in food. I love when they go nuts for food.

I have raised and had plenty of Oscars, they layed eggs all that, never had a success, and have yet to to talk to or hear from a home aquariest(sp) that has.

Really were u sure they were male and female I c alot of youtube ppl being successful. I heard lots of ppl get 2 females tht pair up.

Just did a 30-40% water change and gravel vac the bottom thts wat I did last time and they breed also tried adding in colder
water so far they are rebuilding one side of the tank that i messed up by gravel vac didnt mess with the other side they mostly stay by.

I gravel vac the entire tank to be sure that the nesting area doesn't become too messy. Fanning helps greatly to ensure that there's flow over the eggs to keep them safe. So cleaning helps in that area. Especially with all the debris that might still be under the substrate. Maybe add some slate, even though Oscars like to dig their nesting areas. Sometime a small change can make a big difference. The size of the fish and the angle they're trying to achieve fertilization, can make the difference in a success of fertile eggs also. Doing things different and listening to all the options that is handed down to you, can create sometime good. That's what i realized this forum is for. It might work and it might not. But ask you're self! are you tired of doing the same thing with the same result?

I have 2 small slates in there and a flat pot they seem to like the pot the most they keep picking at it.

When you have time, can i see you're setup? I would love to see the size of you're fish and the pot. The reason i ask is the simple fact that, if the pot angle is difficult for the male. It might pose a possible failure to fertilization. I love large vases, the smaller one i had recently in my take might've caused the eggs not to be fertilized. I was hoping that they would be from my dempsey dream match. I know it becomes a headache. " How painful it is"
