help me catch a possible state record bass

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If I were you and I were going after it I would take a cast net, two poles, and a 5 gallon bucket. I would first use the cast net a little down shore from where the bass is so you don't spook it. I would try to catch a little bluegill and hook it through back and cast it out under a bobber with one pole. I would find a stick to prop it up with, a stick that looks like a Y. Next I would rig the other pole up for crappie and sit on the 5 gallon bucket. This way you have something else to fish for while you are waiting for the bass. You would want to stay remotely close to your pole when you are fishing for the bass so you know if it takes your bait. Keep your drag loose on the bass pole. this way the bass would pull out your drag instead of your pole in the water. You also might want to stick a rock on the butt of the pull as an extra precaution. If something does take your bait it is going to be able to pull out your drag fairly easily. So you would want to tighten it up a bit, but not to tight to avoid breaking off the fish. This is what I would do, good luck, hope this helps. Remember to bring a camera with you cause I would love to see a picture of it , or these 18" crappies. Happy fishing!

You need a net and a sexy female bass. Toss the sexy female bass in the lake and wait. The big bass will spend all of his time and effort wooing the sexy female bass. Eventually he will get a second job to buy her nice gifts to impress her. When he finds out that she is gladly accepting the gifts but she is secretly in love with a scum bag crappie, he will give up on all women and fall into a deep fit of depression, and will eventually put a bullet in his head to end the misery.

...then he will float to the surface and you can net him out.

i have caught a 15 lb 2 oz and its mouth is way smaller then a five gallon bucket, lol.

Try using big live baits with a bobber.

Certainly you have a picture of this fish you caught, let's see it. Also you must be the record holder in your state for that fish, what state did you catch it in?

like i said sometimes the pros say use small bait.about 2" should be good.i was bass fishing one time through on all this expensive big stuff and i was this small cheap lure i had at the bottom of my bag i dont remember what it was. but it worked.and i came up with a lunkergood luck remember line change.

Since it is a farm pond and the fish can't run to far, make the record look good and use 2lb test.

2-6lb test and a large sun fish with clipped fins on a large hook ad dead line it. just let the bait fish swim freely. the bleeding fins will be irresistable to a xtra large LMB.

lol ive tried it with 6 pound test line and it snapped it like a hot knife thru butter haha so im going to stay safe with spiderwire 45 pound test already on the pole :) so greenies would be better to use? theres a little pond by me that i catch them out of like crazy! they range from 1" up to 5". what would be the best to use? and what fins do i clip?? i think on the second pole im going to use little jigs for the crappie. but guys you would believe how big the crappies are haha they r monsters! also heres a list of the species of fish in the pond: largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and a few grass carp to help with the weeds. well i will have to post pics of the crappie then since u guys want to see those to huh? haha

I REALLY doubt the fish is as big as you say it is. A 7lb bass looks like a Monster to all but the biggest trophy BASS fisherman and can easily get you over excited and exaggerate its size.

I suggest a 5/0 circle hool through the back of a 5-6" bluegill. No weight and no bobber. For big fish and this technique I would use one of my SW spinng set ups and leave the bail open and with my finger on the line, or better yet, a bailless reel. When the fish takes the bait I drop the line and let him eat it. After about 20-30seconds set the hook.

Three other live baits BIG bass can not resist.

Mice: hook in the scruff of the neck and let them swim around out there...wont last two seconds but be careful to not get bit while hooking!

Bull Frogs: If he is as big as you say, an adult BF hooked through the lips will be like candy.

Mud Puppys: Big Bass love them. Period.

In most places you cant use those three other baits.

I would try it a couple a ways with a couple of baits if one dosnt work switch it up. If you hook sunfish right under the soft dorsal you wont have to worry about the spines stopping your hook from setting. I would try it first with all the fins on as a live struggling bait is always better then an almost dead bait with its fins cut of.
