HELP MY OSCAR IS BURNING HERSELF TO DEATH

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think thats what it's called and thats exactly what it looks like. Idk it was on recall though. I've had it for prob 6yrs if that matters at all

Finally outwited my fish, caught her, and put her in a 30gal I have, put a towel over it and hooked up an extra waterfall type filter. Too small, but its a temp tank. Now that she is safe, any healing suggestions? And might anyone have an idea about the wobbly thing? Sometimes she'll swim at an angle while going slow. If she stops, she doesn't fall on her side(except apparently when stressed, did that today after I caught her, she's righted herself). She can swim straight for extended periods, and stop straight. I've had her for many months and it doesn't seem to be getting worse or better, my best guess is damage of somekind. Got her at petsmart, so maybe a tank accident? I'm kinda concerned, but its not a constant thing and doesn't effect her quality of life. Any suggestions on eather would b appreciated. And thank you for all your help on the ideas. I am planning on blocking off the area where the heater is w/ that square stuff. And hopefully she'll heal quickly.

your for sure its heater burns....
well you say your using a marineland heater........ is it the one on RECALL marineland stealth pro all black with red dial?

Just for the record, not ALL of them have malfunctioned. I run 2 in all my tanks- I have 15 tanks, and I have yet to have any problems.

I will also say that I'm blaming it on the turtles... from owning turtles myself, the bottom wound on your oscar looks like the shape of a turtles mouth...

My cuttlebones have these same markings in it from the turtles.

good that you got it in the hospital tank, make sure you keep the water incredibly clean to reduce risk of infections add some aquarium salt and possibly some melafix

Alright, tomorrow morn I'll go out and get aquarium salt and melafix:D Does anyone have any idea on my oscar's odd condition? It'd be nice if I had something to make myself feel better about her behavior;)

keep her in the hospital tank, keep her water really clean, keep the temp warm, feed her really well, and I think a good chance your oscar's behavior will also improve as her health improves.

I think it's the turtle and the cray at night that's been wounding your fish as well.

one other thing i forgot to say, add an airstone or two because the melafix is pretty strong stuff, gotta do frequent WC's with it as well

When you moved her over to the hospital tank did you move an established filter or a brand new one? If it isn't an established filter it's going to be tough for her to get better because you'll be putting her through a cycle, and the exposure to ammonia and nitrite will hinder any progress you make. I really think you need to get a handle of the water parameters in your tank too. You need to be able to test for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, keep the ammonia, and nitrite to 0 ppm and nitrate under 10ppm while she is healing and 20 ppm thereafter.

go for it the chance...
when your tanks get too hot and break good luck...

Or you can be smart and exchange it anyways....they give full refund or exchange. no matter how old.

And why so quick to blame the turtles i had 13inch spiny soft shell in a 110g cube with 3 oscars, 2 green terrors, 2 BPs, 1 red jewels, 1 veija bifa, 1 kirin parrot, 1 red dragon FH, 1 dovii, 1 jag, with 2 plecos, and i didnt have any problems......

until i put a 11" aro in there and he got eatin when i was out of town.... lol what a sad day 90bucks eatin
