what makes me cold hearted? because i think its lame to go through so much trouble to save some fish? he spent 30 dollars and had to buy heaters for those fish and wasted his own time. most people would just skip the ugly, deformed, unhealthy, one-eyed fish and move on to the best looking one. but he decided to buy all of them like a super hero. aquaman. you deserve an honorable mention on a television show like oprah but in the real world these things are pointless.

would i be cold hearted if i thought it was ok to feed feeders to oscars or arowanas or even piranhas? i cant stand these pansies and "kind hearted people". what makes you kind hearted? if you choose to adopt a dying grasshopper and nurse it back to health and release it when its better? just be the average normal person and live your life.

edit: i dont mean that towards you 53special. you got good intentions but youre looking in a crack in the wall instead of out in the open. my post was directed to militis because he thinks im cold hearted. and maybe you too if you think im cold hearted.

Well I normally stay out of the topics in this forum as it really doesn't hold much in the way of information that pertains to my Hobby and is usually more of a waste of time. That having been said... Your comments have brought to mind some strong feelings because I beleive that how you treat your pets is a symbol of how you treat your fellow man. If your caring and compasionate then it will come across in both aspects of your life, If your not... well that will come out aswell. Your comments of "most people would just skip the ugly, deformed, unhealthy, one-eyed fish and move on to the best looking one." is completly untrue and is backed up by the fact that most of the fish sold through stores like Wal-Mart are the rejected fish that other higher paying LFS have had the chance to pick up already. Wal-Mart is not exactly the fish haven that everyone thinks about when it comes to purchasing a fish ... yet for some reason they are able to sell more fish in one day than you could ever even imagine. If you truly beleive in human nature being to allow the ugly, deformed, unhealthy, one-eyed to dye... Then don't you think that Hitler would have had a larger following? I could prob turn this into some personal battle with you... but your really not worth that much of my time as I only have time for people who have an openess to learn and accept the differences in the world.

Nobody thinks they're "the most ultimate fishkeeper in the world". This is a discussion board, genius. Everything on this site is of perception, opinion, and experience. In my opinion, this is no better than where they were. You don't know any more than I what the real problem was at the store, as you don't know how many would be dead in either's hands. This does pertain to me, as it pertains to you or anyone else that wants to reply. Don't flip your lid and be an ass. Make this a poll, then see how many agree this was a "GOOD DEED".......

IF this was a poll.. hands down winner would be good dead.... GENIUS!

I just got finished from my Walmart trip. I went to see the fish and there were alot of dead and dying fish. I complained to a manager and he said they had a short in the electrical system and the heaters went out. I told him that wouldn't kill the fish. He argued, I implied he had no idea what he was talking about. Then I said what can you do for me if I buy all the fish. He called another manager and said .20 a fish. I told him to bag them up. So I had to set up my 3 extra tanks. It turned out I was short 2 heaters, so I went to the Reef for them. I now have a 60 gallon with Fancy Goldfish, Black Moores, and comets, on the dining room table, a 29 with Gouramis, Mollies, Platys Plecos and more (I still haven't had time to check them all out) on my wife's desk, and a 20 with a 6" Oscar, a 4" Oscar and a 3" Red Bellied Pacu on her nightstand. I have no Idea what I am going to do with the fish that survive. My wife wants some of them in her tank. All together, they charged me $30, but i think there are more than 150 fish.

Good job, personally I'm thinking that you need to get some serious water changing happening soon though as the water is lookin alittle crappy... Check those params and adjust accordingly (if you need any help/advice just PM) Don't bother with the hatters on here... not worth your time, it's a good feeling to make a save like this and the last thing you need is to be brought down by people without the personal ideals to help make the world a better place even if it's saving a fish from the dreaded walmart.

To popcorn1- you are a sheep. Try standing up and making a difference for once in your life. Try writing a letter to Walmart and tell them how you feel about their fish, instead of coming on here and complaining about them.

To everyone, write Walmart and let them know how you feel.

I think it's funny that you'd feel so strongly about it that you'd post multiple times in this thread telling 53 he should have let the fish die. I mean it's his money, why do you care (and care enough to repeat it)? What did those fish ever do to you? Is it something in particular about pacu or goldfish, or do you just not like fish, or is it just Walmart fish that aren't worthy?

i went to walmart one time and the same thing was happening, sad but if i brought all those fish home it would mean dinner for big cats and cichlids

Good job and the best of luck with the fish. You saw that they were suffering, knew it was wrong, and did something about it instead of just walking away. I'm sure there wouldn't have been any comments about moving on and ignoring the fish if it was an aro or something.

Let me step up on my soapbox, here. We need to realize that all fish are "just fish." A neon tetra in filthy water is hurting just as much as a rtg would be. We can't rationalize saving more expensive fish but leaving cheaper ones to die. It would be like saying Donald Trump is more worthy of life than someone in a third world country just because he's lucky enough to have money and they are not.

You have to know when to step away, they kill hundreds of dogs every week across the country in shelters, anybody you know willing to take on all those dogs?

Common sense has to play a roll in your life.

Goldfish are cold water, the do not need a heater

I agree. Besides, not to sound like a snob but if 30 dollars is such a big deal, maybe a different hobby would be best. There are tons of fish that are 30 dollars by themselves. I think getting 150 some fish for 30 bucks is a great deal, and i am glad they went to 53special instead of some other person who may not know how to take care of the fish properly. At least with 53special they have a chance at survival. :)
And yes, its is HIS money, so why should anyone get that upset over what he spent it on??? lol.

Wal-mart is a screwed up fish place bacause all the day time workers that may have a possability to have some brain leave the cleaning to the night people who dont know what a guppy is. but i agree we should all write letters to wal-mart and say how terrable their fish health is and either tell them to put more effort into it or not have fish at all.
