never tried my hand at a planted before. what is a good looking amateur care plant to start with? Also, what type of soil/substrate should I use? :nilly:

Aponogeton bulbs, dwarf lily bulbs, and Cryptocoryne wendtii 'bronze or green'.

I've been able to grow all of those without co2 and fert dosing, and just regular old gravel.

The only 'problem' is that the cryp and dwarf lily will get kinda large, so you'll have to prune them frequently, but both stand up the the pruning well.

The lily will go dormant once in a while, but just leave it in the tank and eventually the leaves will just sprout again and it will come back.

hope that helps

Cool thanks! Any information helps. This is going to sound nothing short of retarded, but what is the stuff that looks like grass and what type of soil is needed to grow it?

I don't know much about growing carpets other than they usually need a lot of light which means ferts and co2 dosing.

I'm interested in how this rimless tank will hold up long term.

That all depends on how well this whole planted thing works out :)
