My GF got irritated when I bought a new tank or upgraded size until I suggested that I would quit buying fish and tanks if she quit buying shoes. No more complaining...

I am not married but my sister (just showing what fish girls like) comes with me to the petstore to look at the fish sometimes and she always points out the blood parrots, clownfish and and any other fish that is fat.

Very good!

Ask mrs satan. She's on here somewhere, she might tell you what converted her. She had no interest in fish at all when i met her and thought fish were far too difficult to look after. Not any more.

my wife got me into the hobby, she used to keep marine tanks and we scuba dive together. funny thing is, she bought me a tank right after she got out of the hobby and is sort of resentful towards it. she's coming around though. one tip I can give is keep species that she seems to enjoy in atleast some of your tanks. she has a black moor named "Gillbert Fishby" that she enjoys and I perform the tank maintenance.

when I finished school recently we had a conversation about finding room in the apartment so i could set up another tank. She agreed. I walked out of the apt and went into the hallway only to discover a 29g tank sitting there. I already had a stand for a 29g laying around. So I guess the moral of the story is just don't let it distract you from doing what needs to be done, include her in the hobby in some way, and don't spend a lot of money, ;)

If mommas happy, everybody's happy. :D

I'm lucky enought to have a utility room in the basement for all of my tanks and fish stuff. No tanks, fish stuff, disruption, etc. around the house goes a long way to keeping the peace.

I give my wife at least half of any funds that I receive when I sell fish and fish stuff. Dropping her a couple/few 20's a month out of the blue never hurts.

Also, my daughter (who will be 5 in June) likes to help feed and even change water. Keeping her out of my wife's hair for awhile is also a good thing.

What I find funny is that - I think from her perspective - it's better for me to sit on the couch and watch TV... than for me to spend the same time in the fishroom (listening to music, watching fish, putzing around, doing water changes, etc.).

Matt

If she was in the hobby and she has a tank of fish you take care of. be happy with that. there has to be a reason she got out of it, maybe she got bored? maybe she lost interest?

and to all the guys saying cute fluffy fish! >.< Not all women like pink, and puppies.

If she's happy, you'll be happy. Is she content with her amount of hobby intigration?

Pushing her to "be more interested" is only going to push her away from it in all likelyhood.

spending time with her and doing fish stuff prolly makes her happy. Like going ot the LFS with her, asking her what she thinks about a particular fish. Just having her involved in the process of the tanks and spending time with you in that manner may content her.

Most the guys I hear grumbleing about their S/o is a result of time ignoreing their gf/wives and spending time w/ the fish. Not includeing them. As long as she's included and has her own tank. She'll either get back into it. or keep a distance and enjoy watching you have fun.

I am deffinately not a typical female, But I use to sit back and watch my X play video games and laugh. Seeing him happy and content made me happy and content.

Chances are on a LFS run she'll see a fish, and the spark will bite her again. Or something will just click. I went a few years with-out fish, then on a spur of the moment whim decided to set-up a planted 10 gallon. I eventually dragged out all my old tanks and filled them again. takeing the break was nice, but comeing back was also nice.

As long as the lines of communication where open and she's Okay with the tanks. Don't poke at it. Be happy.

Too true... you being not typical that it ;)

take her to the pet store and let her chose a fish and let her grow it out. she will be attach to it sooner or later. i took my girl friend to the pet store and she picked a red devil. she fell in love with it and called it Mr Bambastico.

Buy her a Spa setup of Garra Rufa foot eater fish, and she will either be a fish fan for life, or just give you the boot. Either way it will bring the "issue" to closure!
