it's hard to say that when people have been using fishneedit T5HO and metal halide fixtures for a long time, with no problems. do some google searching and see what actual customers have to say.

the general public has this view that something has to be expensive in order to be "good". luckily there are products that prove otherwise. at the end of the day, it's your money. we can only give our opinions. it's up to you to decide what to buy ;)

I understand what you mean about "things have to be expensive in order for them to be good". I like that the fixture is only 90$ with bulbs. I will do some research about these 2 fixtures and will go from there.

I could see if I can send the company an email and ask about a "Satifaction gaurantee" or something if I were to get this fixture and it didn't work.

So with this fixture there is no warranty, no waterproof endcaps, and no UL listing.

With the hagen glow fixture it has waterproof endcaps. Is there a warranty on this fixture and does it give a UL listing?
Yes on the end caps, yes on the warranty, no on the UL, as they have no switch. The timer does have a switch, and does have a UL listing and is included with the fixture.

To answer your dosing question, I would back off on the carbon to twice a week. Cut back on the lighting, I reverse the seasons and do 10 hrs in winter and 8 hrs in the summer only because of the length of daylight. I use 10K/67K combo CP at 3wpg but I agree a good bulb qualtiy is important as spectrum varies and is very important. Hagen makes a good fixture for HO-T5.

Thanks for that info!!!

Odyssea is the worse out of all of these. when you see one in person, youll see how cheap it is. the entire light is made out of plastic. and there's been stories of them starting fires, so do your research first

This is a company that built it's name on... well, I'm not really sure what to call it. I have a customer that had one catch fire, shortly after it turned on. He had it for only 2 months. Definitely a brand I would avoid like the plague.

fishneedit.com with the little research that i've done it sounds like they have GREAT customer service and if there were any problems they got back to you with in 24 hours, if anything was broken when it arrived they replaced it. Sounds like the only problems were the plexiglass lids not fitting snugly.

so with fishneedit.com there are no waterproof endcaps. How can I reduce miosture getting into the fixture?

It sounds like I shouldn't use the plexiglass as it can reduce the amount of light that it produced and get's into the tank. But that couldn't be so bad as I only want to grow low light plants, or does it have to do with changing the Kelvin rating that gets through?

In other words, you buy it, you don't like it, you ship it back. $90 initial cost. $20-30 shipping back. 10% of $90, $9. So all total you might get back $61.
