Panama's major lockdown ended today, and although I have things to get on the mainland, waiting until the mass rush of lemmings to quiet down a bit, will be my modus operandi.

Below, the notice of the ending quarantine, but continued more lax restrictions.
Health Alert - U.S. Embassy Panama City, Panama (May 29, 2020)

Event:  COVID-19 Situation – Starting June 1 Quarantine Ends and Curfew Begins

Starting June 1, the quarantine with movement restrictions will end. The quarantine and two-hour movement windows will be replaced by a curfew from 7 pm to 5 am, Monday through Sunday. Children will also be free to move about from 4 pm to 7 pm, accompanied by a parent, guardian, or caretaker. The use of masks and social distancing will still be required. This new flexibility does not permit social group activities, cultural events, festivals, visits to the beach, contact sports, or any other activity that violates social distancing.

Also on June 1, the second economic block will be allowed to open. The sectors included in that block are: public construction, mining of non-metals, industry, and religious sites, parks, social areas, and sporting areas will be allowed to operate at 25 percent capacity.

On May 28, Panama’s Ministry of Health (MINSA) confirmed 12,131 cases of COVID-19.

Do you own a boat or do you have to go on some public ferry? How much water separates you from the isthmus proper?

BTW, We hadn't seen any trouble locally except this daring daylight grab-n-dash business about May 1st.
Dicks is about 10 miles from me. They robbed it 6 times (!) and got caught.

But last night the Target was raided in Clovis, about 3 miles from here.
I guess rioters also hit about 100 target stores nationally.

Local cops said 10 to 15 people broke into target about 10:30 PM.
They have increased patrols and widened their contact network.

This is the first actual violent looting in the county, ever, in my 45 years here.
I think we will see store owners in Clovis bringing on armed security.
More remote surveillance.

BTW, they stole electronics, all of which have unique internal addresses, and as such can likely be traced back remotely.

Forthwith, my dogs will be on rotating guard duty. The new kennel will actually accommodate a couple more hounds.
If they raid the grocery, pharmacy and liquor stores across the boulevard from my my back fence, and the cops show up on the main street, my back yard could be a likely hiding spot for looters jumping fences.

I pray every day that I won't ever have to slaughter anything bigger than a fish; not man nor beast.
But if I had to protect little Judy from violence, I fear my outlook would be instinctivly brutal.

Just to update on my Mom, she is doing great and no obvious issues after testing positive for Covid-19. Unfortunately the facility she's at has had a big jump in cases for both staff and residents despite them not allowing visitors since early March. Just a guess on my part that staff may have brought it in either from their home, interactions with others or possibly if they work at multiple facilities.

It is good that your mother is doing good Deeda

We use a public ferry, it had 3 to 4 trips per day, 7 days per week pre Covid, the island is the closest beach to Panama City, so a major day trip tourist destination.
Now its down to 1 round trip leaving the island in the morning, returning to the island in the afternoon.Thurs and 1 Fri only so far, gives about 3 or 4 hours to get things done.
No tourism allowed yet, the beach is closed.

Hello; After watching so much coverage of the pandemic and now the riots here in the USA I have been watching re-runs of Two and a Half Men. I have been pleased to find there are several episodes of that comedy I had not seen. I had many chuckles and a few belly laughs last evening. The episodes are running back to back. I did the same sort of thing with Elementary a few weekends ago. Not much of an escape but fun while it lasted.
Unfortunately the escape faded away and I was back to the burning and looting added on top of the virus doom and gloom. To answer the question posed for this thread. I am affected personally by the cost of things, mostly groceries so far, going up. I expected this but do not like it much. I have not yet shopped for much other stuff but do expect all prices to rise eventually

Well so far our county has reported 38 deaths from Covid but no one dead as a result of protesting or looting.

We are not seeing the spike in Covid deaths that people predicted but just a small trickle really.

A few of those people turned out to have been discovered dead Days after the fact, and were not reported right away.

I didn’t sleep til after 4am last night and fortunately it was a very quiet night. I really was expecting an escalation here but it seems like it’s going to happen in north central Fresno which is the largest fanciest shopping district and right on the edge of the largest fanciest financial district.

There is a lot of glass getting boarded up.

Hello; After watching so much coverage of the pandemic and now the riots here in the USA I have been watching re-runs of Two and a Half Men. . . .

That was a funny show until I found out about Charlie, and now I just can’t stand to watch it because I know who he is in real life.

Eventually I gave up watching virtually all commercial television. There’s just so much more to see elsewhere. I have so much to do.

Hello; Well Knox County TN has two bad outcomes from the two main issues in play currently. I live in Claiborne County TN north of Knox County. The city of Knoxville is in Knox. It seems some cloth masks were ordered by a TN government agency from a company that makes socks. Thousands were delivered into Knox County and they have an issue. Seems the cloth was chemically treated (I think maybe a pesticide) . Caused some reactions such as a bad rash. Anyway the authorities had to stop giving out the masks.

The city of Knoxville had some of the protests or rioting. I do not think it was too serious especially compared to other places. I do not have many details yet, just caught a little on the local news. I am 50 miles away from Knoxville. Safe so far.
