How much experience and knowledge do you have in fish keeping

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Howdy,

I've been keeping fish since I was about 6 (now 32) ... at first, of course, my dad helped me to keep all those guppies happy :). I've had aquariums ever since ... some of them more sophisticated than others. After some years of extreme high-tech'ing my tanks, I went completely back to old school which is where I'm at right now, and I love its functional simplicity. All my tanks have been planted and run on canister filters. I have had a couple of biotope set-ups with strict flora & fauna (Amazon, South-East Asia) but also enjoyed mixed community tanks. I guess in 26 years you simply try out a lot.
Getting a 220 gal was the beginning of my /\/\onster era, and MFK fueled it. :FIREdevil

oh i don't think you will ever know everything.. but most of us have alot of catching up to do...... to you.. Happy your there for us .. cheers to you too..

I started with 2 goldfish in a 6 gallon plastic tank when i was 10. It had one of those carbon/sponge internal filters with the bubbles.

I then went up to a 40 gallon, with the same goldfish. (they were still alive  )

Then they died.

I got 2 Oscars for the 40 gallon. I was 12 years old.
They died, but got to about 8" first.

Then i got some yellow labs and electric blues for the 40 gallon. I was doing great with those guys until the tank sprung a leak. :irked:

Then i got a 125 for my birthday 2 years ago. (i'm 24 now)

I was determined to do things exactly right from that point on.
I did A LOT of research finding out how to properly care for my fish and filtration and water changes and water parameters and test kits and on an on and on.... I printed out information and went over it a zillion times.
I got the fishless cycle down to an art form.
I joined my first fish forum and absorbed info like a sponge.

So really, I only count the most recent 2 years that i have been keeping fish since these 2 years are the only ones that i have tried really hard and learned as much as possible.
I'm a mod on another forum right now and am learning new stuff all the time. ;)

I now have my 125 with Oscar,JD,Loisellei,Syno. Cat, and female Jag
55 G. with Tiger Oscar
20 gallon with Rope fish, betta, ram, 2 tetras, bubble gourami, and a rescued feeder fish  (this is my retarded randomly stocked tank)
(the rope will be upgraded, he's still small)

So thats where i am now. As soon as i get a bigger house, i'll be getting into some serious monsters.
:D

I have been fishkeeping over 20 yrs (thats right I'm old) since I was in HS. I' don't know what I don't know so I can't really talk about my knowledge though i have had many different experiences/problems with my tanks and I am always learning something new. i have a specila interest in Cichlids because of their diversity. I am also branching out to other types of fish, I want to try Rays and maybe other types of fish as well.
