How to measure bottom panel thickness?

BY the way, you can make one if you have some various glass of known thickness.

Instead of reading the marks you make the marks while looking at the reflection.

But it's tricky. Like mirror writing.

No, that's not how it works.

You can just walk up to a window, hold the card against the glass, tilt it, and read the thickness. You don't need more. You don't need to see the edge. It works on the fact that glass bends light and thick glass bends it more.

The tank must be empty though.

Why don't you measure the distance from the bottom glass to top of tank and compare this with the outside dimension?

I knowon my 55 that the bottom is raised the distance of the trim lip so that theres room for the bottom bracing

The trim thickness isn't going to make any difference to a bulkhead fitting. You will need to drill the bottom anyway so if your bulkhead fitting is too short, get a longer one. They aren't expensive

You mean you can get to both sides of the glass?

I thought this was a mounted tank and too heavy for you to move.

Yeah if you can measure from both sides all you need is a little subtraction to get the answer.

I actually quit reading after the first sentence and I never got to this part.

I have never seen a bulkhead fitting for sale that didn't have more threads than you will need. Way more.

Mine stick out about 2 inch of extra threads.

Agree that the bulkheads being too short of thread will not be issue...more often than not the bottom panel is not as thick as the side panels. It doesn't have to withstand the forces that they do.
