I hate New LIFe Spectrum(NLS) FIsh food

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
When I feed NLS I get a smell.

When I feed raw seafood I don't get a smell.

So how is that my filtration system? Saying its my filtration system sounds, like someone that is a NLS SNOB. For if it was my filtration system raw seafood would also produce a smell, hell my filter would always produce a smell.

For those that have had a posative experience with NLS , well I wish I was you.

Good fish food (NLS) is made from other fish. Does fish smell...yes. Could there be a chance that NLS, Omega One, and other "good" fish foods smell like....fish. Well yes there is, especially if it has been sitting in the tank for a couple of hours. This isn't rocket science folks.

I am done explaining myself. Aparently reading my posts is out of the question. Also it seems that NLS is to big to fail.

The only way to clean my mechanical media is with tap water, tank water just won't cut it. I even have to get some soap out to clean the mechanical micron pads to get all of the waste out. The pads get thoroughly rinsed and soak in dechlorinator treated water before going back in.

Soap and filter media DO NOT mix.

When I feed NLS I get a smell.

When I feed raw seafood I don't get a smell.

Raw/frozen seafood typically contains 80-85% water, NLS on average contains approx 6% water. There is no way that one can compare the smell between seafood, and a food as concentrated as a dry pellet.
Fresh krill has a mild fishy odor, remove 98% of the moisture content via freeze drying and that same bag of krill will smell so strong that it will almost knock you over.

I was attempting to help you, if you consider that being a SNOB, then so be it. Best of luck with your pond & it's odor issues.

Experiment with other type dry foods, and see if you still get that smell.

I feed Hikari Gold sinking pellets (medium) to my frontosa, and even though they eat it all, it still makes my tank smell.

I use NLS exclusively because I think it is a great food. I feed alll my plecos and red hooks which is all that I have in a 90 NLS 3 mm thera. When I fed every day the smell was there then I changed to 3 times a week and the smell is gone. I have fed NLS for 3 years exclusively 3 times a week without any deaths or diseases. My L264 sultan pair even spawned twice but the eggs were eaten (not NLS fault). Try cutting back or another food if you wish.

mshill90-ya I am going to experiment with other foods, and get that S/G Filterr going soon.

SD- You were acting like a vulture, you took parts of my posts and used them out of context against me. So just stop "helping" me.

Sarcastic posts help no one, except to inflate the posters ego.
