Killing/torturing animals. It's a morbid joke. Several serial killers started out killing/torturing animals.

A "squeamish" person would not WATCH a fish squirm to death in hot soapy water. Not 3 times over.
You can certainly kill a fish instantly using the stun method (bashing). You just have to know how. Basically you just don't hesitate. Fast and hard.
If you can't use clove oil then severing the spinal column at the base of the head in one swift hack would be the next best option.
I've put fish down twice. I'm not squeamish but it was not fun knowing I'd be putting down a fish I've watched grow from practically fryhood, didn't matter if I liked the fish or not.
Killing a fish cause you're angry with it...it's just not rational.

You are right about the method he used. And the anger. I will not pat him on the back, but I can not put him on the "do not associate with" list for his actions in this particular scenario. Like I said before I hope he learns from this, and he CERTAINLY knew better.....I am pissed a bit, but I am sure he knows this....I would hate for people to all at the same time not give him a chance....

I just hope that this episode of his is the first and last, and that fish he keeps from this period, right now, onwards, are treated properly, and if absolutely necessary, euthanized appropriately.

As I've said, he's an intelligent and well mannered guy as far as I can tell, I just hope that further spurts of anger don't get in the way of both this hobby, his fish's wellbeing, and his reputation on these forums.

What he did was wrong. We all know that, including him. Give him a break. Abuse never helps anything.

To play the Devil's advocate here...I don't know if Oz is different from North America, but you can't give away convicts here lol.

Personally I would have clubbed them as a means of disposal, or put them in a bag of water in the freezer if you're too squeamish...I have had to kill several large fish over the years, due to injury, disease and deformity. Large heavy object to the head never fails...and after a bit of cleaning you've got some free fish food for awhile...

Either way, I tried for months to offload them to a LFS and via the internet. I cannot feed them to a larger fish and I think that a 2" TL convict wouldnt die instantly being smashed against a wall. My parents would not get me clove oil as I've asked them but they refused. I take everyones post's seriously and realise what I've done but I dont regret it. Again, they would of caused more harm them good longer down the track.

Just for the record, the loach I was trying to get to eat was a brand new purchase with a small pinch in its stomach from the day I've brought it. The rest of the other loaches continue eat.

it certainly would..the impact would kill it instantly.

i really hope you don't do this again man, i dont see how an LFS would not haven taken them, behaving on instinct does not deserve a long and painful death...it's not like they teamed up and ate the food out of spite..

I could never smash a fish to kill it....Thats just me. I however have a lungfish that eats cichlids of all sorts so I guess I have a means of dispose, live-in, and never give thought to what it must be like to not be able to "get rid" of unwanted fish. I also give cons away and sell them too....Guess you just have to have a silver tongue.......

i have a 10" midas and a 13" jag that i cant seem to get rid of...maybe i should get a plastic bag and choose a wall....i'll probably place an ad somewhere.

i've done it once, and never again..the aftermath was not pretty...i just freeze them now..

That story was just horrible and cruel. The reason why you killed it was poor also, killing it in the worst way I have ever heard of (no joke), just because it ate some food.
