I need help with a new 20 Long I am setting up...

bump.

My AC50's intake is about halfway down the back of my 20 long. If I had it to do again, I would probably go with the 2 AC30's, though. I had to put in a powerhead to get enough flow on the side without a filter. My Loaches dont mind, but if you're worried about current, you wouldn't want to do this. I vote for even distribution using two smaller filters. Its hard enough to keep a stable temp in a 20long.

Thanks for the suggestion. That is exactly what I don't want, I don't want a power head in the tank.

So I might go the dual AC30s route or dual AC50s instead of one AC70 or one AC110.

Dual AC50's would be pretty hoss, but I dont think its necessary. At 200GPH each, they would be turning the tank over 20 times per hour. I dont know Cichlids, but that sounds a bit steep for them. Again, Loaches would love it!

Id say if your gonna get two which would be a good idea especially if one broke (never heard of an aquaclear breaking down) go for two of the 150 GPH aquatechs. :) That way you can really relax and only have to clean the HOBs occasionally more time to watch the fish and not have to stare at fish crap in the substrate :)

So, are you saying 300GPH is the right number, or are you suggesting another brand of HOB?

+1 on what JakeH asked.

Because Aquatechs suck...so I hope you made a mistake or your kidding.

I'm not knocking his brand or anything. I just didnt understand what he was going for. I know my Dad has had a cheapie Top-Fin running on his 27Hex tank for like 10 years. He only has 2 Neons & a Cory cat, so it really does the job just fine. All depends on your stock I think. What did you decide on substrate/decor? Are you doing live plants?

Black background, black sand, and no live plants. I want rock work for the 3 yellow labs I am planning on putting in there.
