IMO Aquatechs suck because of the quality. The one that came with my tank stopped flowing water after 9 days.

NICE. btw, I went with balck sand as well. It looks great, but get the biggest light you can fit/afford. It really sucks up light. I has to switch my glass top for a full hood because I couldnt keep enough light in there. Why the black background? I think a mirrored would be better if you have the black sand... Rinse the black sand for at least a few hours. You will lose a lot, but I still have a 2" layer & I only used 1 20lb bag of CaribSea from Petsmart. It will still take a few days for the sand to settle before you can turn the filters on, so get started.

The only black sand I have been able to find locally is CaribSea Tahitian Moon Sand in 10lb bags @ $17.68 a bag...

I have never really liked mirrored backgrounds.

Plus I believe yellow labs will pop out more with a black background.

Thats the one. The Tahitian Moon. It really looks great. Maybe my bag was only 10 pounds...? Like I said, rinse it very very well! I think the yellow labs will look great on the black background. I'm just biased towards the planted look. How many labs are you thinking? Are you doing caves for each of them? What is your tap water like?

The bags come with some kind of liquid in them and it says "Just Add Tap Water"

I am thinking about 1 male and 2 females (maybe 3) and yes I want to make caves for each of them.

My tap water is a constant 7.4-7.6

Aqua clear! Oh man typo big time. Aqua techs suck the big time my bad guys. I would never reccomend a 10 dollar wal mart filter over an aqua clear. I meant to say "I have never seen an aquaclear die"

I think sigmund freud was right because I was talking to my mom on the phone and she has become quite the fishkeeper with three tanks now and she has an aquatech 5-15 on her 10 gallon fry tank and it died this morning. lol damn you sigmund freud !

she has sponge filters running and im gonna pick her up an aqua clear filter after work and drop it off. Shes all good.
