I think I found someone selling a stolen bike on craigslist... What should I do?

Want to act responsibly? Try to steal it back, when the owner confronts you and gets physical, shoot him citing self defense. Use all profits from your made for TV movies to open up a bike shop catering to people who can't afford a good bike

I was browsing for bikes on craigslist, and I found a "too good to be true" deal. A person selling a fairly nice bike that originall cost over a couple thousand dollars for a few hundred bucks, with a sob story that he needed money right away.

Is there anything else I should do though?

Yes...mind your own business. I'm sure if the bike is worth a couple thousand dollars (and is stolen) the original owner of the bike is watching Craig's List.

Also...this sort of "too good to be true deal" is the latest way scammers on CL are "farming" for e-mail address's...especially if they specified a specific e-mail address to respond to.

Lastely. If you're wrong...you're going to look pretty stupid!:(

This is also the sort of thing you get "butt-raped" for in prison! Just mind your own business. No one elected you the "Lone Ranger"!;)

So lee if you go buy a new nook on Craigslist today, you yourself committed a crime by possessing the ereader? Knowing most transactions will be cash in a public location, you have no paper trial on how it came in your possession

I hope you're ready to pay the price

who are you kidding... nobody buys a nook!

Don't read too far into it.. Defenitly didn't say cops are worthless, not exactly sure where you got that, just saying they have better things to do other then take up time trying to find out if this bike is stolen just because one person thinks its is. If they do then great but if there is no report of a stolen bike in the area from the owner then honestly that's the owners fault and the cops most likely won't go looking for it.

that' s fine
.. but if he thinks it's stolen he ought to report it whether the cops do anything or not .. he's done his part..:)

yes , EDDIE this is the case , trust that I KNOW and wouldn't bs you ..it is the gospel... possesion of stolen goods is the crime most prosecuted in these cases .. since most thefts are unseen .. ask any cop or judge you ever talk to.... my dad was a judge for 25 yrs and my brother used to be a cop ... the law is one of my areas of "laymans knowledge"... in the case you state if law enforcement doesn't believe I came into the e-reader KNOWING THAT IT WAS STOLEN ,,they CAN , and often do, choose not to press charges

I wouldn't report it. after all, if someone stole my stuff, I don't want it back. trashy crap was just asking to be stolen.

You can't turn him in... As guilty as he may seem... You need a victim.... No victim=no crime... Suspicion doesn't count, unfortunately....

WTH?
