I think you have it backwards and I also think they're females
 
Females have more pearling on their face, jaws, and gill plates than males. Some males can have a lot on their gills but it usually does not extend onto the the jaw near the mouth. Spangling is another term for pretty scales. Sorry bout that.
 
I've never heard of sexing jds by facial coloring. My male has much more blue in the face, extending all the way accross his chin, and changes from an almost total black background to a yellowish orange background when spawning/parenting. My females background color has never changed, and her facial markings stop just below her purple lips! Surely there is a more conclusive way to sex jds...
 
i think there mature at 4-6inchs, my males 6inch and my female's about 4.5" they havent seen each other yet.
i new it would be 2 females or a pair as male jd usualy hate each other,

I think your JDs are too small to sex, they both tend to look female to me. Female JDs will have blue coloring extend down and under the gills, like the area that is red on your FM in your avatar. This area on males is normally laking in blue coloration.
 
they both have blue all over their gills,the pictures dont do justice 4 them.
