You probably aren't getting an exotic animal permit. If its anything like my state you can fill out about 3 hours worth of paperwork only to be told they aren't issuing permits lol. Stick with a fish you are allowed to keep.

What fish can I get that is legal and still cool in California and like I heard rainbow wolffish I don't know if that's true

I thought you lived in Louisiana. Anyways you can't keep anything in Cali. Maybe a rainbow wolf, it's technically not listed.
