Is it true that leopoldi's are coming in Jan?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
From what I was told (this is speculation)..

Is that the rays will be released with no quota. If the demand for a particular species is too high, they will ban that species. Expect extra fees and licensing to acquire rays, like Tigrinus now.

I don't think every exporter in Brazil will have them, or be wanting to sell them fast.. Only the biggest exporters will horde them, gouge the price, and hold them until someone pays it.. I still believe the asian market will outbid cheap US fishkeepers, thus no effect on our price for atleast a few more years after release.

The only thing we do know is that they can only get cheaper :) if they started to export that is....... cant get any higher than it is now....... ridiculous what it takes to get a black ray now-a-days.....

Well really it's ridiculous what people gotta pay to get a black ray now-a-days.... but that's supply and demand for ya....

I received an e-mail today by a customer in Hong Kong saying they would pay for the black rays now if we will send to them with exclusive rights. Keep breeding them. If you see them imported into the US they will keep a hefty price tag. I was told the lift would occure in February not Jan as well.

Most Brazilian exporters that I know ( the big ones) were talking about quitting rays even when they were legal due to their constant losses on them with doa in their warehouses and more doa after shipping etc.
$200 out of Brazil? dream on...they were selling out of Brazil for more than that ( not including shipping etc) even before the ban.
If you think they would actually drop their prices ( from where they are now for smuggled rays) you are simply not dealing with economic reality.
It just ain't gonna happen.

Couldnt have been said better by someone who really knows there rays and the business.

Right befor the ban, I was able to pick some up for $100. And if there is no Quote, $200 for sure. At 6" its a 3 pack, $65-$75 for shipping... And you can be FOR SURE, out "freind" at WW will sell them at cost just to make a point......

I know this thread is about the possibility of leos, but Im surprised no one has mentioned that if Brazil opens we would be able to get hystrix!

With thier more manageable size, hystrix would be the more ideal ray of choice for the vast majority of hobbyist. Id be down for a trio myself!

That is what I was more concerned about, too.. I agree. Bring back the true 'Teacup!'

This is direct quote from my source who visited with officials in brazil last week. Put this rumor to bed already.

The story from Brazil is BS. There was a meeting 2 weeks ago with the association of exporters and IBAMA and they said they have no intention at all to release any rays. Some exporters are telling this story to get people to send them lots of money.
