ALLS WE ARE SAYING IS THAT THE PRICE FOR THESE RAYS WENT UP WHEN THE BAN WENT INTO EFFECT........ THUS EVERYBODY HAS BEEN IN A FREAK-OUT TRYING TO GET THESE RAYS BECAUSE OF THE POSSIBLE MONEY THAT CAN BE MADE BREEDING THEM.....

IF THIS WENT AWAY AND THEY WERE AVAILABLE FROM BRAZIL AGAIN..... THEN MAYBE EVERYBODY WOULD STOP FREAKING OUT.... THE PRICE COULD ONLY GO DOWN...., NOT UP, IF THE BAN IS LIFTED....

THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THE WEAK US DOLLAR AND THE FACT THAT WE DONT KNOW IF THE BAN WILL BE LIFTED..... ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE DONE IT IN THE PAST......

LET ME ASK THIS: WHY WERE LEO'S GOING FOR 250-400 BEFORE THE BAN..., MAYBE BACK IN 04'-05'??? JUST A QUESTION....... WAS THERE REALLY THAT MANY LEOS ON THE MARKET THEN????

I agree with this..... this is exactly what I was sayin... I do agree because of the popularity the price will never be $200; that's for sure, but if the ban does in fact get lifted then it just makes no sense... Those in Japan or where ever those who are paying top dollar are from were only paying top dollar because of the shortage due to the ban if the ban is ever removed then what's the point if they would be readily available again.

but as Mike has said it's all BS so let's just not count on anything for now but the fact that these rays will still fetch a premium...

Some1 mentioned "ECONOMICS" well the economy is based on supply and demand; so if this is the case ban lifted = more rays available = less demand = lower prices right??? isn't this simple economics

The story from Brazil is BS. There was a meeting 2 weeks ago with the association of exporters and IBAMA and they said they have no intention at all to release any rays. Some exporters are telling this story to get people to send them lots of money.

This is also what my source tells me. 3 Big exporters have talked to Ibama now Ibama is split in 2 orginazations. And they are still talking and what are they talking about. Their is a SMALL change that their will be quota for some rays. It will be for 5 species NOT including any black rays or pearls.
If this will be done it will be quota from 500 till 1000 animals per species. So minimum 2500 and maximum 5000 animals.
Already the export fromPeru has dubbled from 20000 animals to 40000 animals. But my question is have you seen them? I don't know of other people but Idon't see them in Europe do you see them in the US or in Asia?? These are official figures where all these rays.
But like some of you sad already lets wait and see.
Regards
Frank

motoros hystrix scobina what are the other 2

i cant believe that these black rays are that rare in the wild....
the Xingu is a very long large river.....

Brazil is just playing games.....

can anyone explain why leos were going for 250 to 500 before the ban??? were there that many on the market then??? This export ban created all of this BS..... and i cant seem to understand why it happened???

the very noticealbe smaller country of PERU is exporting 400000 rays and brazil cant export any....., COME ON..., we are getting yanked around.......

The IBAMA is a very corupt and bull**** organization from the looks of things..., im all for conservation and a rational quota system..., but what we are dealing with now is strait BS.....

it may actually be more plausible that instead of allowing black rays to be exported they may cut down on the number of motoros, etc. that are allowed out currently..
Pretty much the ban could very easily change in the opposite direction most want to believe
