Jack Dempsey .vs. Oscar

i could not choose between them!

love the brute look of the O and on the whole they seem more 'intelligent'

but the JD wins for ease of housing and colour

and i have had JD's spawn by accident before - never manager to spawn O's though :cry:
 
I love oscars personality but Ive always gotten very passive ones( to other fish not humans), but jds are usually better colored and make better tank mates IMO because they will stand up against threat. If just one tank one fish then oscar if for a tankmate then I say jd.
 
I have them both in my tank, my o's (i have 2) are more like dogs beautiful but always begging for food, but my JD is the smallest fish in the tank and the boss, he"ll come see me at times but mainly will hang out in his cave (broken pot), when i feed them he eats on his own, no one bothers him, i have a gt (male), 2 oscars, 1 JD, 1 Blue acara, 2 Pleco in the tank, they all only around 10cm or 3inch long at the moment i will seperate the oscars soon though as the JD doesn't really enjoy there company at times haha. But as far as JD v Oscars, i love them both, i love my GT more but i would go JD tough, cool and beautiful. Amazing fish
 
Tough choice, I have 2 Oscars and a JD. I'd pick Oscars for their personality and JD for looks. Although one of my Oscars is a solid orange color that I've rarely seen and looks pretty cool. Dang, I guess I choose both.
 
jack dempsey all the way more color- great personalites and can be mean or soft depending on fish

I had a jack dempsey 6 inches destroy a managuense 10 inches ...Fish will be fish..indivually
 
JD hands down. Lots of attitude and beautiful colors, manageable size, great for beginners.

Oscars are too messy, not particularly attractive, etc
 
As an all around pic i would pic oscar. My 8 inch female jd just passed. I have had it for about a year. And is one of the most boring fish i have ever had in my hole life. Buitifull has, grace full yes, but boring tried every tank set up i could think of bare bottom, sand, crushed coral, drift wood, soft water, hard water, black water, losts of caves, 1 big cave, no caves. All and was just boring. Oscars are puppy dawgs and are awsome. Great temperate, very interactive, allways on the move with the right space, eat any thing you give them not picky, peacfull enough to keep with lots of stuff, and tough enough to keep with lots of stuff to.
