Jumping in

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Once the dels get comfortable they'll be out. Mine are out most of the time or they try to bury themselves in the sand. But its obvious where they are, usually only cover their heads. lol

Was looking at my polys today and was looking at the one Del that I could see had grown about 1/3rd in size since I got him and started to feel comfortable in my tank and swimming around a lot.

I just saw someone in my area looking to sell a fire eel (13" long), are they able to go with them or well it pick on the polys or the bgk I have? I know with the size difference he would probably eat them but I would keep it in a different tank till the others grew more.

Yeah ive seen them together. Id think itd be fine like you said depending on size. Like magpie magpie said need a very large tank for the eel in the future.

Oh OK, good to know. I was going to eventually have them in a 180. But if that's too small I well not bother with the eel.

I'd say leave it, they like their big tanks :)

Seems I need to feed polys more to hook into this mega growth, something these guys are known for :D

Great that he's active :)

I was JUST asking the crew about a fire eel long term in a 180 and it could be done for a few years, but it is very possibly not a lifetime tank for the fish depending on the eel.

If you know that 180 is your long term max, you might consider another smaller spiny eel like M. Dayi. (Also on my list. :) ) I was also told that tire tracks (M. Armatus) are large but typically stay smaller than fire eels (the largest spiny eel), so they're more likely to be able to be in a 180 for life.

Again, I have exactly zero spiny eel experience but have been asking around a lot about this recently. :D

Lol that's why I'm asking here
Better to ask now before I screw up and get something that will not work with everything else I have.
I have been debating about eels, but not sure if I want to get them. Long term I am planning on just keeping the 180.
