  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
here's an update for you guys, its currently the 9th of january at almost 1am, and i notice hundreds of eggs all over this slate rock inside my piranha tank. they are guarding them like hogs. can't wait for them to hatch, its my first time ever havin convict fry and its in my piranha tank haha. im excited as crap

Congrats ethnics, be ready for some major aggression from those convicts.

My cons arn't doing quite as well in the RBP tank, they got a little to relaxed with the Ps now one is missing a tail the other has about 30% of the tail missing. Don't know if they will last much longer.

healthy feeder's .. or $$ for a wicked set up...:D

both my cons have been missing there entire tails since the 2nd week started. ill shoot my pleco if he gets to close or get rid of him cuz i dont really need him. hopin to see the babies by friday! ill keep u guys updated and post some pics after they hatch.

i might have to remove the structure and syphon out the babies n parents because i need to move the tank. im kinda scared cuz i dont wanna spook the parents into never breeding again or something. im gonna keep my cons with my piranhas until the end of there lives hopefully. its a good combination and i like how much action it adds to the tank. parents are a lil agressive but honestly my butti is controling the p's and the convicts are just breeding lol. they barely ever even face the piranhas, mainly playing with my oscar thats in the tank above the structure.

It sound like your convict may not last too long after they lost their tail.

did u not read what i said? the tails got chewd LAST year a few days after they went in. there alive, there swiming around, there eating, there breeding... tomorrow or friday they hatch. if the other dude's cons lived in his piranha tank for over 6 months with NO STRUCTURE at all what so ever. my cons have the opportunity to hide if they choose to, but decided to "test" out the piranhas. they got there share for doing so but it healed over and is growing back already. as i said it happaned a while ago, i didnt say it to scare everyone to think they wont live, just to show bderick that his aint doomed for just because the tails are nipped. mine are nipped. and they spawned.

UPDATE!!! 01-12-2007:

Just checked on the tank, i have wigglers!!! i thought the eggs all didnt get fertile and got eaten or something but i see the wigglers all over the place in the structure area. hopin to see some free swimmers in a few days... ill keep you guys updated

Well my Cons have now learned that the RBPs are the owners of the tank. They stay out of the way for the most part, but do get brave/careless during feedings. Be interesting to see what takes place when they spawn.

On another note; I went to the Downtown Aquarium today, it's a public aquarium in Denver. They have a display with 130 or so RBPs, very impresive. Well upon closer inspection there are 20-30 african cichlids also in the tank. There is lots of cover and hiding places in the tank and the cichlids use it.

Reason for this, the set up is 35-45' long and is devided into 3 seperate displays, but all share the same water. i would assume some of the smaller africans have foud away through the dividers and made their way into the RBP tank and even into the next section that house Aros, gigas and pacus.
