Not knowing what you get yourself into is different from not being able to.

I'm not claiming they are the same issue...just that they are derivatives of each other.

A lot of people are not able to properly care for an animal because they are not fully aware of what they got themselves into...as well as the opposite being true as well.

People tend to buy impulsively, not understanding what they are commiting themselves to. A lot of the issues lie in that fact. I would think that if only people that understood all of the requirements and had the ability to properly care for these animals, this thread wouldn't even exist.

Sorry mate but I refuse to believe you have nothing to learn. EVERYBODY is ALWAYS learning on reptiles.. no matter how long you've been doing it for. Fact. You might wanna come back down to earth and realise ya no professional?

I meant with the collection I have now. I know I don't know everything but I am doing everything right with my own collection.

There is no right or wrong. Only your animals can tell you, youre doing a good job. If your animals are obese youre not doing a good job, if your animals are not fulfilling "life" events then your not doing everything right. You need to let your animals make that determination. Just because they havent died doesnt mean youre doing everything right. Let them tell you with normal behaviors and fulfilling life events.

I am surprised we don't have a sticky regarding the legality of keeping animals in each of the states, provinces and countries like they do in some of the other forums.

I know my province, it is illegal to keep large monitors that get to be 6 feet of bigger.

No one really care about these laws (up to my knowledge, no one has ever been charge with these kind of crime).

My city bylaw said, we cant keep large monitor such as Nile Monitor, Crocodile, any snakes that are over 3 feet or bigger, venomous species and etc... But guess what? I seen people owning a nice 15ft albino burmese python, I seen a pet shop selling Nile Monitor, green anaconda so??? The authories doesnt even care about them.. its sad, but thats the truth..

Maybe you guys will say, it doesnt mean that you have to buy them and make them suffer by not provide the proper housing? Ever think of the seller/owner of these animals before they reaches to our hand? Ever?

A 16" ft burmese python stuck in a 6"x6"x4" enclouse, because the shop couldnt get rid of it, so do you think that is a proper housing? :irked:

A baby nile monitor kept in a 5 Gallon tank for weeks..Do you think its healthy for him? :irked:

An Alligator Snapping turtle (about 7inches in diameter in shell) the shop owner feed a feeder goldfish to it every month (because the owner scare the turtle will grow into monster size), do you think that is humane? :irked:

I seen an adult Green Arowana kept in a 75G tank, do you think its fair for the fish to live there? :irked:

If your a buyer and you came upon these animal, what will you do? let me tell you! NOTHING!
Next time, when you see some guys keeping a large monitor in a very small enclosure, learn about the truth first, before start yelling/flaming to him/her.. It might come from a far worsier place.. :irked:

The law is the law, and you should be abiding by it. People that keep animals without licencing or breaking the laws make sure that the laws are never changed for the better, and thats when they start putting bans on even more things...
Get one of the small pythons or something.
