Just not pets

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yup. So your laws could be generally sex specific-males only-very sexist LOL. (I know there are individuals).

Are you sure it is 3'? I am looking at the Toronto bylaw and it said 3m... which is 9.8'.

http://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/bylaws/1999/law0028.htm

I do know what you means by pet stores not being law-biding, one of the rescue centres I know of had to get a special permit to take care of abandoned large monitors, snakes, vemonous species and alligators that are restricted by law. Sad affairs... really.

At least here we only got like five or six we are not allowed to keep... and those six guys are obvious. The only stupid thing is that they restricted the Water Monitor, but only listed one of the species -- not the 10+ species of water monitors. Same with the Poison Arrow Frogs... if I remember correctly there are more than one genus of PDFs.

Pet stores don't always follow the rules. The one rear me was still selling snakeheads after the ban on them. They were labled as Pike Cichlids, lol!

Your Right! :D I guess I read it wrong :nilly:

I live in the Greater Toronto Area (Markham)

this is my town/city bylaw .. it should be the same as Toronto.

Wow... the pythons law is a bit weird, but it make sense. At least you are safe.

so your allowed no venemous, no boides, no pythons, no iguanas, no varanus sp., no tegus or crocs. Dude i'd move lol.

I thought that too, so I reread it again since the wording was a bit odd. If you ntoice they use "All ____ including" and "Any ____ including", then I remember there are a lot of subspecies of restricted pythons so what they meant is any subspecies under a certain restricted species such as the Indian Rock Python which include the Burmese.

lol...I was thinking the same thing. But Massachusetts is getting just as uptight about large reptiles that we're probably heading in the same direction.:screwy:

Their should be a specialty exotic animals facility that sells reptiles to people who can take care of them. These exotic animals would not be able to be found in a pet store or on any importer list. A qualified person would make an apointement and come to your house to check up on the animal every 6 months or so. Now thats the perfect world. No Iguana, RES, Nile, or any other animal would suffer ever again.

Are you serious?? The only place you can get a handgun in my state is in a licensed and inspected gun store, and you have to go through about 12 months of processing, paper work and background checks.

And yet our murder rate is one of the highest in the country, and the weapon of choice is handguns.

Banning various animals will accomplish absolutely NOTHING. All it will do is encourage black market trade, discourage people who own the animals from providing proper veterinary care, and encourage people about to get "caught" to release them illegally to avoid jail time or huge fines.

In a perfect world, I'd support a permit system... but who decides who is worthy of keeping these animals? Zoo keepers? Animal experts? Animal rights activists? Skeezy politicians?? Z Trip??? Depending on how those details were ironed out, maybe it would work- but then again, maybe it would become like handguns here in MD, where only criminals have them because law-abiding citizens can't make it through the paperwork chain.

There are too many grey areas to legislate for. The best thing we can do is encourage education and do everything possible as "exotic" pet owners to educate people we come into contact with. I am almost constantly teaching students in my classroom about animal husbandry and care for the great variety of animals I keep in my classroom. I truly believe that some of the most important lessons students learn in my class involve animal care/ husbandry.

Bans and negative threads such as this one are NOT the answer.

I love PA............Pretty much no laws on Venomous, and for large boids, none that i know of .........(possibly city / township ordinances)..........although with the http://cbs3.com/local/local_story_165234630.html ...............Killer cat eating snake" on the loose......we might be doomed!!!!:nilly: :nilly: :nilly:
