Kewpie's Dragon Worm Growth Thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My pH used to tank because we had super soft city water (as soft as you can get) and with my plants after a week it would drop significantly. My fish were never affected, maybe because it happened slowly over time, but I'm wondering if you might be getting some pH swings? I ended up having to add crushed coral to my filter which stabilized it.

I'd maybe check tap pH, tap pH after sitting for a day, tank pH after a WC, and tank pH right before a WC. Just a thought.

I did 50-75% WCs every week with zero issues ever.

I would also just check the water temp before a change with a thermometer vs your hand JUST to take that out of the equation. It's free. :)

I hope you can sleuth this one out!

Good suggestions, I'll give those all a try.

Sorry for the late reply man

Are you on city water ? If so do they use chlorine or chlaramine ?

Any recent storms lately ?

Asking because a few yrs back I remember something similar happen in to another member. Turns out the city was adding allot more chlorine/chlaramine after heavy rains

What was your solution? Smaller water changes? Or hotter water?
My solution is i bought water drums, 2 55g drums, i put water and heater that has the same temp as the tank, i inly turn in the heater on the drums magbe 24hrs before i do my WC, i use a pump to get the water out of the drum into my tank if the tank water is not enough i just get more water from the garden hose but that will be maybe 10% more water, the temp dont change at all. Plus putting water in a drum is basiclly aging the water and the cholrine will mostly be gone.

As long as it is open to the atmosphere it will off gas.

I'm on a well, I bought a GH/KH test kit that should be here today, going to see if that tells me anything.

GH = 8 KH= 5, nothing out of the ordinary, tap and tank both match.

I probably shocked the poor fish from inaccurately judging the temp of the water. My lap has also become quite aggressive to my albino sen, I'm probably going to have to separate them.

I would buy some more polys but my heterospilus have been stuck in a 55 while I've been searching for someone to buy them, but I've decided to keep them so they're in the 120 now. Also did some aqua scaping.

How do you guys suggest controlling for temperature for water changes?

Tanks look nice! How’s the lap?

Water temp is so crazy. Definitely seems lot different to us than it does to the fish.

P.s. The Python has an adapter for the shower?

Thanks for the compliment :) With all the hides and territory now she's not the community fish (to other bichir) she once was, but she's not actually damaging the other two bichir and she doesn't mess with the cichlids.

There isn't an actual Python brand shower adapter, I just brought my Python to Home Depot and they found an adapter that fit. The downstairs shower in my house is solely dedicated to water changes.
