L046 pleco setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Congrats on the babies! Mine recently had eggs but it wasn't fertile by the male. Maybe u should rescape your tank specifically for zebras if u like to see them more. I decided to dedicate my 150 just for zebras. So jts barebottom with just caves and a few driftwoods. very simple easy to clean and I get to see my zebras all the time. Update when the wigglers get bigger will ya!

I don’t like bare bottom tanks to be honest. I like my tanks to have lots of crevices for them to get into. That’s the price I pay is not seeing them ? I take satisfaction knowing they are happy and breeding. Seems some people have difficulty breeding them, so I’ve definitely been blessed here as I did nothing “special” for them.

I did find one bumping around in the tank and I put him in a breeder box alone, I’m undecided if I’ll be moving his siblings in with him.

What size caves opening do u use nikki?
So I posted a pic of my current setup and marked in red the cave the male used, on the far right.

I have about 8 or so triangle caves in a row with one or two stacked on top, they all rest on a large slate pleco cave with 3 very large openings. The zebras chose the triangles bc they are smaller. Size of triangle cave is posted in the second pic.

Congrats on the kids. Nothing is cuter than a new zebra fry, not even a new cory fry.

Some of us believe that new zebras need to consume some poop from more mature zebras in order to obtain needed guit bacteria. We have no proof for this save one thing, Most breeders I know will say the sames thing, including me. Zebras left in the breeder tank gro faster than those moved into a grow tank soon agter going free swimming.

I believe this to be the case with some of the other Xingu Hypans. When I gave to pull young fry to a new grow tank, I also move some poop with them. I then try to keeps a couple of older offspring in the grow tank at all times to provide the needed poop bacteria.

I have no proof for this belief safe the above anecdotal evidence.

Thank you!!!
I am in the same boat as yourself, I did not take the fry from the dad, this one was just a straggler that either got kicked or lost in the tank so I put him in a breeder box, he will be released when his siblings come out of the cave.

I see a huge difference in my bn pleco fry when they are raised with adults vs not
