Large Cichlids that play nice with tankmates?

I agree with the others that suggest other smaller South American species.
An 80 gallon is too small for any large Central Americans.
But it really also depends on your water parameters, many South American Amazonian type prefer soft mineral poor water.
Central Americans work well if your water is hard and alkaline.
Some smaller Centrals from the genus Amatitlania would work, in an 80 gal, and are quite colorful.
Examples
A nanoluteus

A sp Honduran Red Point

A myrnae

With these species you could possibly have a couple groups, with dithers.
In an 80 gallon with many of the larger Centrals you'd be lucky to keep 1 individual, maybe a pair with nothing else.

This would be my choice for an 80 gallon; dwarf CA cichlids are probably my favorite fish to keep. Small enough to do a nice group in a tank around this size, and you get to watch them interact with each other. They also are easy to breed, some are rare enough that you can sell the fry, and they have lots of personality.

An 80g is really better suited for small to medium sized cichlids especially for a community. But there are a lot of good options that will be very colorful and peaceful. But first before fish, get the tank cyclied. Check your ph to help decide what species are best for your water.
