Largemouth Tankmate

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well thanks alot for that wonderful show! I am very impressed. Did you get hard as you watched that mouse drown? Wow your fish really is BIG and BAD!

Careful Skip. Rallys already locked 1 thread because this guy is "not so bright".

I don't agree with it either and the other guy in Seattle is probably someone who lives in the same house with him or something...

Dropping live animals into a box of water so that his "Under 1lb. bass" can drown it instead of eat it while he drops the F-Bomb on a 5yr old is this guy's Forte'.

I think people who own fish/animals should be required to have a license that costs more than guys like this can afford to prevent this kind of crap.

Can't buy a second mouse @ $1.99 a day later makes me wonder how he can take care of his fish.

Anyway, to answer the actual POST QUESTION... I had a 4lb LMB with large, CA Cichlids and they got along fine.

The LMB eventually died of bloat from being unable to digest the krill I was feeding the cichlids. Maybe I should have tried a rodent...

P.S. And for this other guy from Seattle, comparing fish and crickets to mice?? Come on dude. If you're going to make an argument for the abuse, at least compare apples to apples.

Mice happen to be very intelligent. That's why you never see any crickets in laboratories being tested for possible side-effects of certain products on humans.

Mice realize fear and have a basic, instinctual knowledge of what death is. Goldfish do not. They possess "flight responses" (swimming away quickly to avoid predation) but don't experience pain and anguish the way that mice do.

And comparing a pinky whos eyes aren't even OPEN yet to a full grown mouse is stupid. It has no conception of predation or it's eventuality. Even at that, it's still not right.

Fish eat mammals in the W I L D because they have to (if the opportunity presents itself) to survive.

An aquarium is a "Controlled Environment" and the fish does not "need" a mouse to survive. He could have spent the same $1.99 on nightcrawlers. Unless you are going to compare worms to mice now too. haha

Next time argue with some rationale please...

People it was a damn mouse. Would you cry like this if he fed a cricket to the mouse?

OH POOR CRICKET!!!! Be humane for the cricket.

Let us discuss feeding our bass and keep your "we need to treat rodents like humans" to yourselfs. Start a new thread about it.

word if you guys want to bich about what is humane i want you all to go and protest infront of the whitehouse about how we have troops in the middle east shooting even young children that only can protect them self with rocks. and i asked if my bass was large enough to eat a mouse on here before. i have never had any animals that will eat other live things besides crickets/goldfish/mealworms etc. i didnt know i had to go and buy a pinky or what ever to feed it. do you really think i would have put the mouse in there with the intention of drowning it? and for that other guy i have no clue who the other guy is from seattle i know he lives over 50miles away because i know what city he is in. now you all can keep running your mouth it is not going to bring the mouse back to life. if i knew the mouse was going to drown i wouldnt have dropped it in the tank. and yes i did find it entertainging. am i proud it drowned? no. but you learn from your mistakes. now you all can go and run your mouths none of you sweat me. and i picked up some pinkies today from a lfs so i will record them being eaten. and for the ones who want to hate you can all keep hating. i really dont care about some random guys ranting half way across the country or even half way across the street.

BlokOne,

You videotaping these events is far worst than the drowning of the mouse. Legislators bring videos like these to meetings and base laws on this kind of stuff. It's funny how one jerk can spoil it for millions of people. You might say that I'm over reacting but they said that the government would never ban all snakeheads just because of a few jerks.....

so then why exactly is the snakehead banned? what about the pirhana?

I cannot believe what I am seeing here, it's disgusting. You people are taking this wonderful hobby about bringing nature into the home and bringing it down to the level of dog fighting and other blood sports. None of you who are condoning this activity are responsable aquarists. Do us a favor and leave the hobby because you alienate us even more.
All of your arguements are stupid and poorly thought up, evidence of a faulty genetic code I think. You call a bass killing a rodent in a box natural? My god...I doubt any of you even understand the basics of nature and how it works. You want natural? Toss your fish into a pond...that's natural. Allow it to spawn...that's natural. Mimic it's environment with natural plants and decor...that's natural. Put it through a photoperiod and temp. change it would see in it's natural habitat...that's natural. Reduce it's nitrate level to zero...that's natural. And all of these things I listed will do worlds better for your fish then feeding it some nasty lab raised rodent and filming it. Mice aren't healthy for bass. Mice are fatty and messy warmblooded animals who rarely end up in the mouth of a wild bass. Should one end up there it is burned off in the basses daily activitys...what daily activitys does a captive bass have? Hovering around? Maybe swimming four feet and back? That's like you burning off a big mac by walking to the telephone. I have a LMB as well...it eats pellets, small insects, frozen foods and other healthy items made specifically for captive fish.
You people have no respect for these animals. "Oh boy, I can't wait till my bass can eat mice...any day now". Where is your respect for nature? Is the ability to mice the only reason you keep the bass? Well if so you my friend should take up a different hobby, maybe reptiles keeping. At least a snake is made to eat mice. Or how about buying a cat or ferret...they eat mice as well. Leave the fish hobby for the real fishkeepers, the responsable fishkeepers. The fishkeepers who raise fish for reasons other then the size of it's mouth.

Good to see you were able to borrow another 1.99 bro. Excellent work.

What was that video supposed to prove? That you're rebelling against our words with more mouse feedings? haha

Anyway, I would never do that to my FISH let alone the mice but it's your choice. See how the pinky didn't even know what the h*ll was going on?

ALOT different than the first mouse...

If you have any, just use common sense next time before you try to feed your fish something almost half it's size.

Not that you care because I'm sure you don't but you shouldn't make a habit out of feeding your LMB animals because that is not their staple diet in the wild. You could actually end up killing your fish.

so then why exactly is the snakehead banned? what about the pirhana?

Snakeheads are banned because a few people decided it would be fun to place some giant snakeheads into the wild. Now, because of the actions of a few bad fishkeepers all members of the snakehead family is banned in the United States.
Pirahna are banned becuase they are considered dangerious to humans...probably due in part to people feeding them small mammals. I live in NY, pirahna cannot survive in our waters but they are illegal anyway.

Umm...LMB, feeder fish, crickets, meal worms, mice...they are all animals. I think you meant mammals. And just to put my opinion in here. I don't think the video was even worth it. It was quite boring.:(
