LDA105 typhoon advice please

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm not sure, I've thought about selling one and getting one of the female blue eyes from pier. However that means actually advertising etc and then trying to tie the sale in with a trip to pier, I'm in Dundee so it's some road trip. At the end of the day they are stunning fish and having 4 is no hardship, plus they are practically impossible to obtain at the moment .
My other fear is that I put the blue eye in and it's carnage like I had before. The typhoons on the whole get along bar the odd spat at feeding time but spreading the food around solves that.

Decisions decisions.

What sort of price would you be looking for, for one of yours if you were to sell one? Just to keep my options open, thanks

i might have to consider that m8, I went to silksworth again today at 2.30, closed again, I'm going to try again tommorow, if I have no joy I'm going to have to look at other options I have already spent about 20 quid on juice going backwards and forwards, I have a half day and don't start until 11 so hopfully I can catch him

Update, finally I'm sorted out, got to silksworth aquatics today, third time lucky, I have settled on and arranged to buy a LDA 105 typhoon looks like a good 5"-6" really really nice fish, from exactly the same shipment as mark n's, I was after speaking to Micheal actually considering buying a large one until he said the price which was absolutely crazy, I'm picking him up on the second week in July as I need to set up a separate tank for him as Micheal advised he will do better buy him self, I will post pictures of him when I get him, huge thanks for all the help

Good to hear you got it sorted mate. How much was the price for bigger ones out of interest ?

Thanks very much mark, do you mean the price of the one I'm getting or even bigger ones? The one in getting about 5"-6" looked a very nice size Micheal wanted £500 pounds but was kind enough to give it to me for £450 pounds, if this wasn't from his personal collection and he was to buy them in now I believe it would be a lot more expensive as the price of LDA 105 seems to be rising even higher, he said the 8"-9" ones are about £1000 pounds each and the jumbo ones (fully grown I'd expect 14"-16") are around the £3000 pounds mark, I know because of a pal that works out there a 14" LDA 105 sold almost instantly in Singapore for 4000 sinapore dollers around £2200 pounds last year (early 2017) so £3000 will be about right by the time you take rising value, pay for shipping costs, shop profit etc.... , he showed me pictures of a massive one in one of his vendors/collectors hands, wow what a fish, but what a colossal price tag, I could never afford £3000 pounds for a single fish even if I could I don't think I'd pay it.

That's some serious cash mate. I'm happy with the ones I have and I think I'll just keep them as a group of 4 rather than risking rocking the boat so to speak. Michael sent me pics of your one and it's a cracker. The one I got in the same batch had a rough import I think and it took months to recover but it's looking awesome now. I'll need to try and get some updated pics.

Do you see anything else that caught your eye at Silksworth? I'll need to really make the effort for a trip down there but I'll just end up seeing stuff I want.

Yeah he's got loads of stuff in m8, loads of uk firsts that I can't remember the names of they don't have L numbers yet as they are very newly discovered, nice sized blue eyed Suttoni 8" ish, he's got a really nice L14 sunshine maybe 9"-10", honestly m8 there's loads of proper rare rare stuff in, mark how did your LDA 105 take the water change from Micheal's water to yours? Or do you use RO buffered water like Micheal, only I just use bog standard tap water ( although all tests suggest it's very very good for normal tap water I'm very lucky that way) and I'm a bit worried about the transition from Michaels water to mine if I'm being honest, how did it go for you any problems of note? Or did it just go well?

The water here is very soft. I had the fish couriered up by APC and as usual they arrived late, about 1400 so the fish was floated for about half an hour and during that time I just put small amounts of tap water into the bag, he was totally fine. I just use tap water, dechlorinated of course, for water changes.

The other 3 typhoons came from a hard water area and they were transitioned over a longer period but again no issues and if I remember all of them fed straight away without issue. I collected the three small ones so they weren't in a box overnight. However when I collected the first one it was freezing and snowing but they seem quite Hardy.

I had a shoal of cardinals which I had to remove because they were nipping the typhoons tail extensions. I worried about that so moved them on. Now they share the tank with a sole severum which is a pet like a pet dog really, loads of character.

I'm quite sure your typhoon will be fine.
