Im 16 in 1 month but if you consider that a kid then ok... I got a job permit at 15 and 2 months... And IMO anyone who actually has a job and gets income is not really considered a kid...

Ok Then. That is your opinion and I respect it... But,what you are saying is a 18 year old is still a "kid"?

At 15 you are most certainly still a kid. I have no doubt of this and the tirade you're having in this thread does little but validate my assumption.

I am more experienced with quickly judging the maturity of others than most. During my time in the US Army, I had the great honor of serving as a drill sergeant from 2010 to 2012. Part of my responsibility was to help men (and women, but they generally weren't a problem) develop the maturity that they needed to succeed in the profession of arms. As such, I learned to quickly and accurately form a judgement of the character of my troops. One thing that quickly became apparent is that age has very little to do with whether or not someone is a kid.

Being a kid is little more than a mental state of being. Many younger people match or exceed the maturity of older people, though age is admittedly a somewhat reliable indicator of what you might be able to expect. I can't begin to tell you how many thirty somethings that I had to "counsel" in order to get them to perform. As far as I was concerned, they were still kids. Many of the best and brightest natural leaders who could take responsibility for the group onto their own shoulders were 18 year old kids straight out of high school. The biggest problems? Older dudes who had an unwarranted sense of self importance and nerdy kids who were picked on in high school who had something to prove and again, an unwarranted sense of self importance.

You my boy appear to be the pot calling the kettle black. From my experience, your lack of an ability to correctly process this emotion and channel it in such a way that it is productive and instead leads you to have a tantrum on a fish forum leads me to believe that you aren't as mature as you think you are. "Actions" speak louder than words. Had you presented yourself in a slightly more mature fashion in this thread, you probably wouldn't be dealing with all the people who feel that you are being a child as well. There are many young kids who do a fantastic job taking care of their pets, and many of them are on this forum. Take for example MFK member xApostle, a teen who is taking college and has a solid CV already. Judging from what he writes, I'd have believed him if he told me that he was a grown adult.

Being mature is like being a man. If you have to tell people that you are, you're probably not.

What makes me mad, is people at the pet store who don't know what there talking about. Iv only gone to 1 pet store where the owner refused to sell people animals because they didn't have proper enclosures or tanks size. What 14 year old doesn't want a cool pet. In my opinion the people who make these animals ready available for sale Should take the time find out if these kids buying these large fish or reptiles know what there getting Into and are ready to feed and house them properly.

I'm young and I have a tegu a snake and several large tanks, I buy almost all of the supplies and do my research before buying any animal.

The fact that this thread was created by a 15 year old, child, is hilarious.

You may have seen cases of what you explain, but that doesn't mean every kid does the same. Like others said it's just stereotyping and it's doesn't help anyone.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, concludes this argument. :iagree:

Im loving the consensus on this.

Uneducated Kids mess up

Educated Kids do well

I think that about sums it up, and messing up usually encourages or discourages, encouraging would turn the kid into a better keeper. Discouraging would make him give up. Everybody messes up, my biggest was w/ my first senegal. Kept it in a 15 gallon for 4 months thinking it would "seem" too large for the 15 at one point, he went into a 70 and he got to full length and got that odd watery bloat cb sens tend to get after i had him for a couple years.

Discouraging? Sure. Slightly encouraging? Yes. Its up to places like this to help prevent the same mistakes weve all made! More info on the monsters in-store would be helpful, like a pic of full size w/ scale under every tank at the LFS. I feel like that alone would prevent a lot of the things Furious is complaining about.

I can't believe all the bs in this thread. Talk about discouraging. Close this thread and let's move in to something more positive. Nothing wrong with encouraging young people to take part in the hobby. There is a lot worse sh*t they could be doing.
