I knew what you ment. I really loved my little armored hoplo cat but I felt it just did not have the size to be in with a big endli. I wish I could find a gaint hoplo but will look for something.Honestly I thought of geos reading what you wanted but that's not a cat lol. And I'm not saying the fish won't be big enough, but you want it to be tough enough to take a bite, remember most cats only have a slime coat for protection. Because something seems big doesn't mean the bichirs won't try, because it'll try also doesn't mean it will succeed. I'm sure you know all of this though lol was just giving an example for you since you kept mentioning how tall bodied a syno may turn out
These are really big cats for a 24” wide tank....Get a granulated or Irwini catfish
No problem, I appreciate the ideas. Just looking for something that can spend its life in the tank. I chose the tall show tank which does limit me.It’ll take the Irwini a while to get that big. Idk just throwing some names out there for big friendly cats
srs man bullheads are ideal. They are strong, don't get to big. Good cleaners they eat everything that doesn't get eaten in the tank. They look like sharks hovering over the bottom. I keep them with bichirs here as well. Sometimes there is a bite in his fin but he never had any problem healing it. And you just have to walk to the nearest lake and trow out a net or rod. They are literally everywhere for free. And there are way to much of them so you are even helping the ecosystem. No problem, I appreciate the ideas. Doras micropoeus - this long faced giant cory looking fish, that swims constantly, sifting sand for food. Color mostly grey to green, but great personality. Can reach aprox 16" in the wild.
7" $175.00 each.
This seems to be a good option.
