what big monsters can i keep in a 180 gallon or around tank?

This sounds like it would have been a better question for the first post.

I understand that you don't get as attached to your fish as some of us, but that still doesn't mean it's okay to treat them like crap just because you can.

If your friend's RTC is four feet or more right now, then he's done an okay job taking care of it. If not, then he hasn't.

Honestly, so far you've said, "I want!" and "All my friends have them!"

You might want to re-think your approach.

He wasn't kept in the best conditions back then.
If I knew what I know now I wouldn't of bought him.
But whatever makes you look better.

lol, it's not about looking better... it's about letting people know the true potential of a fish...

But whatever makes you feel better ;)

right now, your best bet is to look at what is the largest (heaviest) tank that you can safely put in your room.

you can't put a 180 or a 240 just anywhere. the weight is too much given the small area.

if your room is a normal residential wood floor on a second floor, most of the time you need to re-enforce the floor.

otherwise, you can do long term damage to the floor.

A 180 Gal is a nice big tank...

You could fit a pair of Most large agressive Cichlids... Such as Parachromis or Amphilophus or Festae...

You could do a handful of slightly smaller or less aggressive Cichlids, possibly having female Amphilophus or Parachromis species on that list...

Or you could do a ton of smaller growing CIchlids such as Firemouths, Geos and things like that...

I'm not much of a Catfish guy myself, but I'm sure there are a few species that top out in the 9~18" range that would work, depending on the tankmates you wanted them to live with...

The Oscar seems to be growing right on track, best of luck with him/her...

WOWWWW first somewhat helpful post in this thread. thanks .. ya the oscar is healthy according to any fish hobbiest that has been in my house and seen it. anyways o the other thing .. im not a huge catfish person either but ive kinda begun to like these perticular ones

biggest problem with me is i don't like cichlids .. oscars are alright but thats as far as i can go .. just the same shaped fish with different looks doesnt do it for me. .. i want more unique stuff then this. but not weird looking either .. hard to explain. i find cichlids also to just be more aggresive rather then have a personality of a natural born killer almost. i loveee the personalities of snakeheads but i dunno if i want them. also if i do decide to go with snakeheads what kinds could i keep in a 180 galllon tank. and will anyone justify that i could keep an aro in 180 gallon tank? at least for a long while?

WOW. try giving up the gar and aro and knife and RTC and paroon. then u should be fine with a 110 gallon. u got real big fish u want my friend!

i'm on the ground floor in the basement of my house .. cement underneath the flooring .. and my room is pretty big. dimensions are something like 26' x 11' .. it was acutally two rooms we knocked down a wall and made it one large room.

and it's not just the size of them that makes me like them. why does it just seem like every actual good unique predatory fish i like seems to get as big these do .. you guys are the experts .. without giving common things that every fifth person on this site has in their tank .. what things grow like 12-20" that is similar to the fish i want?

also i'm not a huge fan of catfish anyways .. i like the rtc's because of their reputation .. and tsn's for the same reason. other then that not a huge fan of catfish and as i said im not a cichlid lover. i dont really want a tank that a familly would have in their living room basically.

Florida Gars don't grow longer than 2 feet, usually. They also grow pretty slowly after fourteen inches or so.
