Interesting dilemma with the insurance, however I think that your adjuster was wrong in saying that the entire tank, stand, and filters weren't covered, even if they were the object that caused the damage.

The insurance company should have paid you for the damage to the house, replacement cost on the filters, and replacement cost for the tank. The insurance co. would subrogate your claim against the manufacturer's warranty, which means they would then go after the manufacturer for all the money they just paid you.

Depends a lot on the wording of your policy though...I think it's BS that you had to come out of pocket for a new tank....

they did cover the stand and filters but NOT the tank..it caused the damage and in the policy was not covered..trust me , i argued that one.woody didn't make the tank and i'm sure he has a family to feed just as i do so i couldn't see holding him liable..state farm see's it diffrent though!

I agree with buying again from Precision. I'm glad insurance covered some of your loss. I will be giving my tank a good look.

one thing about woody that bothered me was he had a few pictures on his website of MY 450g that he did not build. when i asked him why he was representing to potential customers that my aquarium was his work, he apologised and removed it from his picture gallery..i thought it to be pretty slimy that he was trying to take credit for the build but not any responsibility.:screwy:

Hey Cj I am not stranger to Mike either. Rob and I have had extensive conversations about this guy. I'm sorry to hear about the tank. My sump split apart on me one Sunday morning courtesy of Mike. I'm curious though how long was the tank up and running before it came apart? Mine is going on 2 years and I swear to you I get scared everytime I look at it. I constantly check the seams. I drained it a few hours ago and i am thinking before i move it to my new home i might bring to to someone reliable to check it out

I wouldn't have felt bad at all...Woody, as a business, SHOULD carry product liability coverage that he would probably make a claim against if he couldn't otherwise afford to replace it for you. It sucks that he didn't make the tank and wasn't personally responsible, but the fact is he bought the business and all the liability for the crappy workmanship that took place in the past.

I am a public adjuster, so maybe I'm just thinking along the lines of what would have gotten you the best settlement.

CJ - Glad to hear you are up and running again. I don't know James, but I have heard nothing but great things about his work.

I heard that Mike has a pet store in the Atlanta area now, and I have to be there next weekend. I would love to stop by and introduce myself in person, but I don't know which store. Something tells me he won't forget me for a long time.

Anybody know which store? Rob

ah man, i wish i knew..woody knows..he told me in what city but i dont remember..it was a suburb of atlanta.. i get the feeling there'd be a long line to get at him..he's the bottom of the scumm barrel in my opinion.

if you happen to meet him shove that louisville slugger down his throat and out his other orfice from me! thinking back of water changes in that tank and all the creaking noises i heard, its a wonder no-one's been seriously injured or killer by this crap he built.the seam could have failed with me or a family member in front of it.

i hope yours doesnt creak and crack like mine did when i refilled after water change..i hate to think of you in front of it when it goes..mine was in service for 14 months or so before it blew..from what builders have told me, the acrylic type/brand he used was not made for pressure applications, i.e. aquariums as the glue doesnt bond well into the sheet. i feel for you..you have to be nervous every time you walk past your tank.:(

I had the number for the petstore and called it one day when they were closed and his voice was on the answering machine. When i called during operating hours they told me that Mike had not worked there in months. I know it was a lie because why would you keep and ex-employee's voice on the machine. Especially one like Mike.

i don't know about the too large for mike to handle, but from what i have been told since, mike used the wrong acrylic for the aquarium.2 diffrent builders told me the acrylic used (chemcast gp) is NOT recommended for aquariums as it doesn't allow the glue to to weld together well thus a poor seam.state farm did want to "pursue" woody but since i would not let them take the pieces of acrylic for "testing" they decided against it.

i hold no ill will towards woody.he did not build the tank and i'm sure he regrets the purchase..robkob another member of this forum had a tank that failing as well, he was lucky enough to get it out of service before it blew.

I looked at some pics from Dan in georgia on the facility and it looks like Woody was using Cyro Acrylite GP. I don't know acrylic manufaturers so I don't know if this is good or not.
