Thanks guys, well bad news, it started to leak in 2 spots, one spot on the hose, which should be fixed today, the other is the lid on the canister filter, its leaking from the actual lid. So i am going to have to email the company and get a new lid.
all 3 of the knobs in the picture were leaking, the first knob was actually leaking from a little crack in the lid.:screwy:

Sorry to point out the obvious, but sometimes the bargain brands don't turn out to be such a bargain in the long run...

On the sand question, keep it! I have 220 pounds of sand in my 72x24 footprint - I love it, especially the "dune-like" patterns formed by the circulation pumps.

Ya but it was cheap and they are shipping me a new lid ups 2 day, so it will be here friday since it left yesterday. I have a sun sun and it works excellent.

I left the sand how it was and i really like it.

The plants are in:

i'd definetly agree with the corys, i love my little guys, my advice, lean towards the 10, the more the better :)
beautiful tank, will definetly be watching progress as i intend to do much the same over the next year...
but i want to build it myself haha :)

Thanks, ya i was leaning toward the 10. i just need them larger so my dicrozoster can't fit them in his mouth, hes a big boy ~10" i would say.

I would be concerned as for long term use about the lid. I meant if it's leaking now from the start, I can't imagine when you have to open and close the lid for maintenance as the knobs wear and tear... However, if your okay with it that's all that matters.

It's good you have a sump as well. Reason having two filters are always better than one. In case one fails you have a back up.
