My 210 FOWLR Turned Reef

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Accidentally put this in the wrong thread...

"My next step is hooking up a CPR CS102 overflow box that I got from a guy used. I am going to try to hook it up and continue to have the other overflow still run and get twice as much water going through my sump.

Also, I am supposedly for sure getting my fish on Tuesday this week(we all know that may not be the case at this point). Might have a surprise addition to show you all as well. I will let you know if its going to happen."

Now to update this post...

I was potentially getting a Goldflake Angel really really cheap(way cheaper than it is listed at), but I now am not due to a health issue(go figure with this site). I am however getting my order from PIA finally. He emailed me today and said everything is good to go, so hopefully that will be the case. I am getting 2 Female Wrasses, 10 Feather Dusters, and.....I can't jinx the last part yet until it actually arrives(Fleshy don't ruin it :)).

Finally my replacement fish are here. Here is what I got.

2 female Flame Wrasses to replace the Male that died.
5 feather dusters-it was supposed to be 10.

And the surprise I didn't want to jinx...
The guy forgot that he had already given me an Achilles tang, so he sent me another one and I just never said anything about it. A little consolation for all the crap he has put me through. So hopefully I will be able to keep one alive!

Super cool. I think that you should keep both alive, even though I cant have it.

Awesome fish, cant wait to see it!

...and go out for sushi. And get my free birthday frags you still owe me. :D

I hope so. btw correction to your statement, it is frag singular. Don't get greedy :naughty:

Both new flame wrasses are eating already today. The Achilles didn't today as far as I saw.

So today I spent a long time(with the help of my GF, great girl :)) taking my entire tank apart and removing the fish. That is what I get for listening to people like Bob Fenner and not quarantining my wrasses. Or buying from Pacific Island Aquatics for that matter....or "Pain In the A** Aquatics" according to Flesh LOL
Now ich is in the tank and was slowly getting worse. 2 months fallow is now going to be taking place. I am treating my fish in my now torn down old 75 gallon reef. I had removed everything and sold stuff or put the other corals in the 210. They all will be getting cupramine and nitrofuarazone including the 2 new wrasses I got on Tuesday.

My 1st Achilles tang is not looking good at all the past couple days and is now undergoing a treatment of nitrofuarazone and quinine sulfate. The 2nd Achilles tang is going to get the same treatment in a day or two, want to get him eating some first. Hasn't eaten in the first two days.

None of the feather dusters that came on Tuesday have opened up yet at all, I think they are all dead. Think I might not risk it and take them all out before they rot in my tank.

Wow, even when things are going well, a saltwater tank is a chore. Stuff like this though, this makes you want to pull your hair out. Good luck on getting the fish better.

Take it if the fish are dead, you wont be bothering to get a credit back from PIA?

Man - you can't catch a break can you. The stress involved in the shipping process is really bad news for both fish and fish keeper. Hopin' things turn around for ya soon.
Those Achilles are some really spectacular fish - $189 for a juvi, $299 for a sub-adult @ my LFS with no arrive alive or 5 day guarantee.

sometimes i wonder why we even bother with this hobby. more work then its worth sometimes.

Ha! It does seem that way sometimes.

Well I have finally ended everything with PIA. Both of the Achilles I was sent died, the 2nd one never even stood a chance, just stayed in one corner and never moved or tried to eat anything. I was only sent half the feather dusters I was supposed to get and they all had crawled out of their tubes and died during shipping. I told PIA I didn't want to continue sending stuff because shipping was expensive and I was having so many problems. So I asked for a refund...

I got the 100 back I paid for the Achilles despite the fact that I received 2 and the first one lived past the guarantee. I also received 50 dollars for the feather dusters despite only paying 25 in the first place.

So with all the problems it hasn't ended up so bad financially at least(assuming the flame wrasses I still have don't randomly croak).

All of my fish are currently being quarantined still and all doing well. I have come to the hard decision of selling my angels when they are done with treatment and fully healthy. The Scribbled was the one I struggled to decide to get rid of because it is my favorite fish, but I have started stocking my 210 with lots of corals and a number of them would not be angel safe. A majority of the experimenting I did with the angels failed and I wouldn't be able to keep much of a reef with them still in the tank.

at least u got some of it worked out. load that baby up with corals..lots of times u get lucky and they wont bother your corals.

i have a question.. how do u do your calcium/alk dosing? 2 part with dosing pumps, calcium reactor or kalk?
