at least u got some of it worked out. load that baby up with corals..lots of times u get lucky and they wont bother your corals.

i have a question.. how do u do your calcium/alk dosing? 2 part with dosing pumps, calcium reactor or kalk?

I don't think I am going to risk it. The angels have already shown that they like all sorts of corals and I don't want to put them in and then have to tear apart my tank again to get them out.

Until recently I haven't been doing anything but water changes, but via testing I have noticed that 40 gallons every 2 weeks can't seem to keep up and with lots of corals being added I am starting to 2 part dose. Once I have the tank pretty well stocked with corals I will be switching to a calcium reactor(I already have it). I got the 2 part off of Bulk Reef Supply.

sometimes i wonder why we even bother with this hobby. more work then its worth sometimes.

That's a nice quote may add it to my sig :)

I've put about $2000 into my tank so far. I'm still waiting for the day when I can pull a sofa or chair out and just watch the tank. Mostlikely I wont get this feeling until i put another $1,000....for a 15 yearold...it's tough.

Nonstophoops, your tank looks epic, Hope the tang's get better. Pics please :)

the reason i mentioned it was i was thinking of removing my calcium reactor from my nano tank and moving it to the 125. the reactor is way to big (rated for 250g)for a tank that small and is impossible to keep the drip rate slow enough to keep the tube from clogging. even after i raised the reactor ph to 7.1 . i guess i could leave it and keep messing with it but i think it will come in handy in the 125.

if i do this i plan to add an apex lite controller and 2 dosing pumps. might be easier. maybe an ato also. its bad if i miss topping off for a day.

pazz. i never have that feeling. lol always something to do with 5 tanks in the house.

i just picked up a 56g marineland tank for the fish out of my 125. had to put it in my sons room, they are his fish in that tank and he didnt want to get rid of them.

I agree with you that the reactor is too much for a tank that small. Dosing would most likely be much more economical because you wouldn't have to add a whole lot of stuff for that volume of water. The reactor would me much better suited on the 125 for sure.

I want to get a controller, but I haven't gotten my mind around spending all that cash on it. If I am going to do it, I want to do it right and have all the probes and everything hooked up properly, so I am proly going to wait a while on that.

Thanks, doesn't look like much right now. This week I am going to finish redoing the rock work. I pulled out the pvc structure I made for the left side because I didn't like it. So, I have to come up with something else over there. Get the rock set in stone(pun intended :)) so I can epoxy all my corals in place. Right now it is driving me insane trying to keep everything from falling over!

I just place my corals in frag racks until I find the spot I want to mount them.

I've decided not to spend more $ on the nano except for a dosing pump. I'm going to move the calcium reactor to the 125 and spend the extra $ on aqua illumination led lights. Hopefully I can move all my sps corals to the larger tank eventually.

usually when dosing 2 part u use a lot more alk then calcium. i dont think u need to do automated calcium dosing. just alk. most likely only have to add calcium a few times a week.

Ahhhh. I forgot about this thread....I don't know if any of the same people still frequent the Marine section here, I know I haven't in quite a while. I stumbled upon it and thought I'd a little(ha) update on my tank(s). Quite a bit has changed in the last 6 months. I will start off by saying the 2 Flame wrasses also didn't make it, but they lasted nearly 3 months. I now wonder if the collector for PIA does not properly decompress his fish and they slowly end(sometimes quickly) up with problems because of it.

I decided I couldn't part with both my angels(Emperor and Scribbled), so they have continued to reside in a 90 gallon for the time being by themselves. The Emperor is just starting to change from his juvenile colors. The Scribbled really hasn't grown much. I know the 90 gallon is too small(probably now) to be possible long term, but they seem quite happy right now. They eat like crazy and are very fat. I do frequent water changes on this tank to keep the water quality high because they produce a lot of waste.

On to my 210...

In/On Tank:
-3 x 250 watt MH with Phoenix 14k's
-2 x 160 watt Retrofit VHO's with some Actinic bulbs
-MP60wES Vortech pump (right side)
-MP40w Vortech pump (left side)
-2 x Koralia 4's (top left to move top of water)
-Approximately 150 lbs. of live rock

In 125 Gallon Sump:
-Aqua C EV-400 powered by Mag Drive 18(this is about to change, with elaborate below)
-200 mg/hr Ozonizer with ORP probe
-GFO Reactor by Two Little Fishies
-ATO by Avast Marine Works
-Mag Drive 18 Return Pump
-Remote DSB and Chaetomorpha with 40 lbs live rock with mushrooms occupying 60% of sump
-300 watt heater(unnecessary right now, more a safety precaution)

Other Equipment/Planned Equipment:
-Apex Jr. Controller(currently only being used for heaters and monitoring temperature, recently purchased and still getting things hooked up)
-55 gallon ATO tank
-1/4 hp Chiller(will run threw Apex)
-300 watt heater(will be added to the additional one when Chiller is hooked up)
-Reef Octopus SRO 6000sss Skimmer(I am changing out skimmers this coming week. My Aqua C is too loud and uses a ton of energy with the Mag Drive powering it. I can save 10 bucks a month running the Bubble Blaster Pump that comes with the SRO and it's quiet!)

Tank Inhabitants:
-6" Vlamingi tang(this is the one I purchased in the spring when he was less than 2 inches, there is a photo in the thread of him as a baby somewhere)
-2" Yellow Belly Hippo tang
-2" Desjardini Sailfin tang
-2 ORA Black Ice Snowflake Clowns
-2 Resplendent Anthias(also from before, one didn't make it)
-2 Cleaner Shrimp
-Astrea Snails
-Hermit Crabs

-SPS(Monti's, Mille's, Stylo's, Birdsnest's, Slimer's, Acro's, etc.)
-LPS(Brain, Plate, Scoly, Candy canes, Trumpets, Duncan's, Hammer's, Frogspawn, Lobo's, Turbinaria, Acan's, Blasto's, etc.)
-Lots of Ricordea Yuma and Florida
-Some Zoa's and Paly's

Lighting and Water Parameters:
-1:15PM VHO's ON
-2:30PM MH's ON
-10:00PM MH's OFF
-11:15PM VHO's OFF

-SG 1.025
-Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates all 0
-Calcium 440
-Alkalinity 8
-Magnesium 1400
-Phosphate 0
-Temperature 76 to 80 each day(too much swing for me and want my MH's at 8 hours and my tank gets too hot then)

Foods:
-New Life Spectrum Pellets(Large Fish, Small Fish, and TherA, I feed this the most.)
-Fleshy and Nonstop's Homemade Reef Blend(Silversides, Clam, Squid, Scallops, Shrimp, Mussels, Plankton, Cyclopeeze, Selcon, Vitachem, Zoecon, and some stuff I am sure I am forgetting, Fish love this stuff and the corals get some food too.)
-PE Mysis(Thawed and rinsed before feeding)
-Ocean Nutrition and Hikari Angel Formula's
-Spirulina Flakes(Occasionally)
-Nori(They rarely touch it, it's weird)

I feed my fish a ton. Multiple times a day and multiple foods. I feed my LPS pellets approximately once a week too. I also soak food a couple times a week in either Selcon or Zoecon.

So since my last post, my 210 has fully transformed from a FOWLR to a Mixed Reef. My rock work has been completely re-done. I took out the PVC structure and some of the rock. Some of the remaining rock was drilled and stacked using fiberglass driveway markers to make high spots. I also drilled some of the rock so I could stick frag plugs in.

To keep my water parameters in line, I am dosing with BRS 2 Part once a day still. I may have to change it soon because I am using about 120ml of each solution a day and it is getting expensive. So a Precision Marine Calcium Reactor will be hooked up soon I think. I am doing 35 gallon water changes every 10 to 14 days. Once I got pretty much everything I wanted into the tank and positioned, I got my dosing down pretty good and everything has taken off. I can literally see growth from looking at a coral before bed to getting up in the morning. Since it hasn't been stabilized that long, some of my coloration isn't great on my SPS. They seem to be coloring up by the day now however.

Here are a few pics of what the setup looks as of about a month or so ago. My friend has my camera and I need to get it back, so I don't have much for very recent with everything in place. There is quite a bit of epoxy showing, but with time and growth that will be no more. I also epoxied magfloats with rocks and stuck them to the back glass. I could then mount frags and provide more area for corals. It also should provide a nice depth. I don't think I have any pics yet showing them all up, there are 4.

The last pic has the same Atlantic Blue tang from before in it. Unfortunately, about a month ago when I introduced the Hippo and Sailfin tangs the Atlantic Blue went crazy on the Sailfin. I had to pull the Atlantic Blue and put it in one of my QT tanks. Long story short, being a large fish in a small tank like my QT tanks caused problems. On the 4th day all of a sudden it wouldn't eat and looked bad. I put it in the 90 to try to help and it just got worse. it ended up dying the next day. I was pissed and sad as it had become one of my favorite fish. Too much stress I believe from switching tanks and "the catch" of getting it out of the 210.

I am going to try to get new pics very soon. I need the for my records anyway so I can monitor growth and have those cool "before and after" shots.
