My 9 yr old son's tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well my son is at it again .... he's spent the day re-doing his 29G .... we didn't end up getting the CO2 unit, but wanted to try a low-tech planted tank, he was dissapointed on the lack of plants (2 anubias, 2 hornwort, 1 sword and 1 onion plant) but I told him he can always add more down the road. I'll try to get some pics loaded later, he's still finishing it up ... but once again, well I think its worth showing.

So this is what he came up with

He stayed with the rainbow gravel (makes it his he said) and forced me to trade his driftwood for 2 different pieces I had. Just picked up a new bulb today (6700K) and we'll see how it goes.
So what do you guys think, this is the 4th tank he's scaped now, 1st one with real plants. And this time I left him all alone ... all I did was attach the anubias where he wanted it. The tank was lower so he could place things himself.

Again great setup , big thumbs up kid :D

reminds me of when I was a lil kid, good job!

Thanks ... he's frustrating me. Anytime I do a tank, (I did a 29G as well ... but too ashamed to show it next to his). His always makes mine look like garbage afterwards.

I gotta be honest, I liked the first one better

The first one was all fake plants though, that's why he was dissapointed in the lack of plants. Keep telling him real plants grow, and he can always add more.

More and more I'm thinking of letting him just scape all my tanks, I guess I'm a proud but frustrated Dad. Mind you, he gave me a good laugh today. Asked him if he did his tank this morning. "Yes" ... so then I asked him if he took care of the plants "Yes, Dad I added the CO2 booster like you said" .... Asked him what do plants eat "..... (insert puzzled look) ...." ... Then I mentioned 'LIGHT' .... "I turned it on this morning before breakfast" .... So I asked him if a tree grows with just 1 hour of light.
We had a good laugh after that.

Great job. I got a 5yr old wanting his own tank, He wants the whole Glo fish setup:irked:., now I guess I'll have to get it and let him set it up too:D. Great job on setting the tanks up, and great job on the dad part:thumbsup:

Hahaha hes defo gona have a monster tank before he hits his teens (it'll cost you a small fortune hahaha:D ) my kids pay interest in.our tanks but I think ive bored them to death with w/cs and fish talk for years , they want a small tank in there bedroom with a turtle or something in but my mrs won't have it downstairs is already like an aquarium :D

I myself am not a fan of fake plants or colored gravel, BUT for a 9 year old, who cares! as you said it is his tank and for someone his age that is a FANTASTIC LAY OUT! especially with the tall plants behind the log and the short in the front, definitely a plus 1 for a first tank! *claps*

as lame as it sounds that would look interesting with a tank or some soldiers in there = P
