My adopted tiger oscar not eating :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
so does for 50-55 gallons even though i may only be removing 40 gallons, with water conditioner?
yes. always dose for size of tank not water replacing.

keep in mind prime breaks down or looses its potency and gasses out. it will not build up in the tank, after 48 hours it is gone. its more complex than that? but that's the bottom line.

if your new filter has a carbon bag, this needs to come out, tank does not need to be running carbon and has a suggested link to HITH.

checked the ammonia this morning, 0 ppms! :) First time ive seen that number

Test ammonia and nitrites everyday. If either one gets close to 0.5ppm, do a 50% water change. You need a little ammonia in the tank, otherwise it will not get cycled. Keep up with the salt at 3 tablespoon per 5 gallons for the next 3 weeks. Add the salt back in that was removed, so a 10g water change will require that you pre-mix 6 tablespoons of salt, and add it back into the tank as you refill it. After that, you can reduce the amount slowly over the course of 2 weeks. So on week 4, the amount of salt should not be lower than 2 tablespoons per 5 gallons, and on week 5, around 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons. Then on week 6, no more salt unless necessary to help with an ailment.

Do not use Pimafix or Melafix. The salt is all that is need right now for the ich.

Keep the lights off above the tank to help reduce the stress. Room lighting will be sufficient.

What's the ph of the tank?

I didn't read every reply but I would also treat with methylene blue as a dipbath, helps the fish "breath" better in addition to salt as well. Will also help stave off anything secondary that may be lurking: bacteria, fungus, etc. Good on you for the adoption.

A dip bath would require that you take tank water, and place in a separate container like a 5 g bucket. Add 1ml of methylene blue per gallon of water in the bucket, aerate the bucket with an airstone, and place the fish in the bucket for 30 minutes.

Do not put any of the methylene blue water into your tank. This has a high chance of killing any bacteria that is growing in the tank.

he still hasnt eaten yet :( will he eat a pellet that ha sunk to bottom if he is hungry? I just want to keep the tank clean as possible, need to do a nitrite test today too, what builds nitrites? In old tank my ammonia was higher than my nitrites (which were in safe range) the two times i tested in old tank.
