I am just hating this wait till payday and finally being able to set up the new tank.

I did get the FX4 and it's currently running on Toni's tank. When I set it up I put a bag of the bio rings that come with AC110'S in it that have been running in the AC for a year probably so will seed the filter for sure.
I also got the background but no hints yet you all gotta wait till it's setup to see. It's a nice one I'll say that much.

So I believe that Yankyjack is still out on a business trip, haven't talked to him so getting nervous will he be back when it's time. So been making alternative plans on what I might do instead. Went thru and picked the plants and such for each different fish set up I came up with.

Was thinking more of your smaller cichlids as a base to build around. So they have more room in comparison.

Salvini cichlid with swordtails

Wet Spot got in pasionis, so the Firemouth tank is looking good again, with corys and some tetras busy tank, this one would be.

Blue Acuras, Rapps has some wild ones from Trinidad, looked it up and Wet Spot has the correct tetras and corys to do a biotope set up.

A Goe tank with a couple Severums or maybe a single Uaru.

A Green Terror tank.
They got in some Albino red Oscar's, grow out Toni a hubby.
Make another Oscar tank, this time do the whole get six let them pick mates rehome the rest. They got some more wild Columbian in like Juan Carlos, so three wild three albino red..........
Still about 2 weeks till it's all said and done, I can't wait!

So this question is for any of you long term Jack Dempsey keepers.

How are they with plants.

I had Jack&Jill for about seven months. In that time they had Jungle Vals, Java fern, Amazon swords and 3 differents Crypts. They never bothered or hurt any of the plants save a CRYPTOCORYNE TONKINENSIS, Jack hated this plant and destroyed it.
So I am wondering if when they get bigger do they uproot plants and rip off all the leaves like Toni did to the plant of DOOM!
If so I don't think I will try a planted tank with them.

You know finding Central American plants is harder than you think......

I was planning on getting Jungle Vals, for the background plant. And SAGITTARIA CHILENSIS as the midground plant. And finaly some Dwarf hairgrass as front. The first two is native to North and Central America, the hairgrass is worldwide so all are in Central America where JDs are. Now I don't know if lets say a biotope correct tank, but at least from Central America.

Thoughts ideas on other central plants? Or should I spend the plant money on manzanita branches, and do a rock/branch hard scape.

I’m not a super long keeper of jds but I’ve had mine since December 2017 until now, my adults; female about 4-4.5 inches, male is about 5.5-6 inches.

I’ve had plants in with them since they have been babies and they havent touched them, granted most of my plants are attached to wood and totally movable, except my giant Val’s, hos are planted and haven’t moved bc of the jds....

Any of my plants that look to be in poor condition is all my fault, the fish leave them alone. (And I know you Know about my tank bc you read my thread, :-) just wanted to add my experience for other people)

I have no experience with live plants with my dempsey, but he certainly rearranges the fake plants to his liking.

Well I think the plants will be held back for a bit. I have found a place to get what I was dreaming of for this tank for a bit now.

Taking after vincentwugwg vincentwugwg , if it all works out as now planned, the tank will be all Albino or Platinum fish. Ohh I can't wait.

Albino Sail fin Mollys
Albino Channel cat
Platinum Jack Dempsey

duanes duanes Eden2 video in all glowing white fish.

After many many days of contemplation I belive I have decided on what to stock in the new tank.
After considering main stars of JDs, Sagittae, GTs, Salvini, Acura, African cichlids, Severums, Geos, more Oscars, even a flowerhorn.
Then considering long term, stocking levels size when adults. Shoot Toni is eating a bag of Carnisticks a month now, do I want 3 fish or more that size.
I also wanted to join the "Big boys club" of owning some Jeff Rapps fish.

So it's going to be centered on the Wild Blue Acuras from Trinidad.

6 Acuras (let them pair up and keep two females and one male)
20 Serpae tetras
10 Leopard Corys
1 L201 Orinoco Angel Pleco

This should fit the bill, lots of activity with the cloud of tetras and corys. Neet Acuras to watch. Plus a fancy Pleco to boot.
Next month a bunch of plants and nerite snails.

All the fish in this setup is a lot smaller than my original plan of 10in cichlids, 7in dithers, 6in catfish. We shrunk down to 6in cichlids, 2in dithers, 3in corys. So overall they will have a lot more room relative to the bigger fish. And maybe a lower bioload, we will see.

Heya Jexnell ... in my experience the larger jack dempseys tear up plant set ups.

I'm looking forward to see your new set ups!
