Looks like a little barred midas.. Its cool though, I bought one last year and posted a thread tryin to find out if it was a festae or uro. It was neither. Barred midas, look at those lips......

I can sort of see what you're getting at, but juvenile Firemouth are usually iridescent white with iridescent blue specs in their fins and red stomachs and are very easy to identify.

Juvenile RD/Midas most likely, as everyones stated; I'll just say juvenile Amphilophus, let it get a bit bigger and then work it out

i think your wrong. my festas looked just like it at when they were 2 inches. no red at early stage but showed the black barring and bigger black down through the middle. the eyespot i think is a dead giveaway. look how high it sets on that fishes tailfin. the rds doesnt look like that. at least my rd anyway. im not saying im 100 percent right cause the 2 do look alike when they are small. but im going to stick with that real high eyespot. just going to have to wait and see

I think I'm going to have to wait I'll post a new pic in a couple of months, but reading all the replys it might even be a guppy!!!! lol

Your bottom pic looks a lot like a immature midas or red devil to me. Can you get a better pic?

I'm obviously delusional.. You just don't know jack about fish. I've never seen a firemouth that dark in my life. All you have to do is look at where the eyes are to know thats its not a firemouth. I still don't see firemouth at all. Maybe its just because I'm not new to the hobby.

Barred Red Devils / Midas are very easy to identify, and obviously you don't know that the barred rd's / midas are usually ones that have yet to go through their color changes and to the thing about firemouths and the barred rd / midas, they do not look alike. I keep firemouths and I've had them in past and they've never had barred markings even when they were stressed.

As far as the GT I think it is a gold saum but would need to see the scales. I am 99% sure it is a gold saum.

yeah, I kept firemouths as my first fish. IN 1995.

there are alot more similarities between these two fish than differences.
