My poor Oscar and my first CA Cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The sad thing is, my Oscar was a part of the family. Sometimes he would for whatever reason get the grumps with me and a family member would have to feed him. But he was an aggressive Oscar, killed all tanks mates except 2 (the Bass and bn) which had to be rehomed has he was trying to kill them. Plus 3 broken heaters, 1 filter, 3 thermometers and god knows how many plants lol

Never knew a Oscar that liked plants lol.

Thanks, might contact duanes if it doesn't settle down. I would have thought it would be exhausted by now lol. I also wonder if it's just adjusting to being by itself.

Ok been doing a couple of things. I tried to video the fish swimming up and down but it stopped the moment it started recording, then started once I gave up lol.

I also did water test using the master test kit. Everything is normal except, Ph seems to be lower than normal for my water 6.6-6.8 and nitrates are 10-15ppm. I did a large water change yesterday before I added the jd, so not sure if to do another. I know my city water has some nitrates in it.

Do you guys think nitrates could be stressing it out?

Ok sorry, I think I got worried for nothing. Just gave him some bloodworms, which I don't think he has had before because he didn't know it was food until he tried one then gobbled them down :). I think it's just a hyper fish, it's not scared of me one bit. I can put my hand in the tank and it doesn't bother it.

I think I'm going to have a hyper, fearless and aggressive JD lol. I also thought, such a cute little fish (it's 2-3inch) might turn into a terror lol

He is still doing it today. Up and down, Down and up lol
