Thank you...learning as I go.

My lighting is the Finnex Ray2. It sits right on the aquarium and lighting is pretty intense. I'm starting to notice some algae growth on the anubias...the kind that you can't wipe off. I'm cutting back the finnex time and using the fluorescent bulb that's in the light fixture that came with the tank, which is not as intense but gives the tank a different look...the carpet looks greener.

Closeup of a red tiger lotus I plugged in about a week ago. High lighting seems to be keeping it growing low, which is what I want. Beautiful plant...I cut off 2 leaves that were 3/4 to the surface. The way it grew in second pic leads me to believe the high lighting is keeping it from growing upward...just a hunch.

I want to say I'm not being critical of the scape of the tank because I've been there but this is the best representation of staring at an art piece and asking what do you see.

If you take out the driftwood and stems and replaced them with rocks you'd have a professional looking Iwagumi scape and no one would be the wiser. It would look amazing with proper rock placement worthy of publication.

As it is I'm torn still looks great but looks like something is missing, but have no idea what. I am by no means an aquascaper I just farm plants. =) Keep up the great work.

be cool to have some rocks embedded in the substrate and place the driftwood on top. definitely not trying to be critical, I think it looks really good I just think you should add some other cool stuff and expand a little :)

I appreciate the compliment Jay...it means a lot, considering what you've shown us. I know I can learn a lot from you. Please keep updating that 180 gal.

I too feel something is missing but for the time being, I'm just trying to grow out these beginner plants and getting them to thrive. Of all my years of fish keeping, a planted tank is by far the most challenging. I'm just trying to understand what the plants need in terms of lighting and fertilizing. I've been following directions that came with the liquid fertilizers and all appears to be doing well. My issue right now may be too much lighting...green spotted algae I think.

I love the simplicity of an Iwagumi tank...plus 200 cardinal tetras.

Thank you. Will look into some rocks. What kind & placement...no idea.

I welcome and appreciate any criticism...good or bad.
