New 300G Setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Excellent! That bugger outta sit level now!

When I built the stand for my 300 a couple of years ago I had to use individual leveling pads. Even though it was new concrete (the wife got a new family room upstairs and me a new work shop right under it!) it had dips and waves that would have caused me all kinds of grief trying to get the tank level.
And I really like the way the stand is an inch or two above the floor. It makes it easier to sop up water spills! LOL

Nice, that is really impressive. What are those leveling pads rated at weight wise? I really didn't like how unlevel my concrete was. It wasn't that it was way out of true, just one side was up and the front was tilted forward. I poured and leveled it as best I could with the trowel and then left for a couple of days. Should be back tomorrow to throw a level on it and see what it looks like. Really hoping the self leveler and my trowel work was sufficient.

Couple of updates, been awhile since I posted in this thread. I'm glued up to what is shown below. Unfortunately as I was gluing the customaquariums 3/4" bulkhead didn't have a stop in it so my pvc went all the way through. I ordered a replacement from amazon, so hopefully when it gets in I can finish the pvc up and get the tank filled up and leak tested. I ended up making some changes to the ball valves on the overflow, the ones I used from the big box store were crap(way too hard to turn) and I put them too close to the box along with the unions. They were causing unneeded pressure on the box. I replaced them all with true union ball valves from amazon and couldn't be happier. Notice how they are significantly lower than the other ones I originally went with. The old ones were pushing up against the back of the tank and I think that is why I was having such a hard time tightening my unions. I feel much better about the integrity of these. Will see for sure though once I do a leak test. Also ordered 2' lights for the sump and some rock from Lowes for deco once I get this thing up and rolling. On a side note I started doing some composting this weekend. I got a couple of European night crawler worm bins going. Should be a good opportunity for feeding the fish some special treats occasionally.

Finally got the correct bulkhead in. Couldn't find one that would work from amazon so ended up getting it at BRS. Got all my plumbing finished up except for the drainage. I mocked up what I think could work for the drain, but would appreciate any feedback anyone would care to provide. Thanks. IMG_2132.jpgIMG_2134.jpgIMG_2136.jpg

Couple of updates. This is still just a rough in, I have not glued any of the outside drain plumbing yet. Got it going a bit lower to miss some of the other plumbing and added some unions. I wonder if I will have to close the ball valves on the sump during tank evacuation or if the drain will be able to handle the output?

Denon Denon , what is the size of the PVC for the drain lines? Is it the same on the tank (drain) and the sump drains and then increases after the Tee to the P-trap?

Deeda, it goes 1” from the tank and 1” from both sumps and then drops into that 1.5” into the p-trap.

Couple of quick updates. Got my pvc supports added for the pump and added puck lighting in the sump area. I have these same lights under my cabinets in my kitchen and really like them so decided to just get some more. They come with a remote and allow me to adjust brightness even do modes etc, but I have to admit they are a pain in the ass to get the wires up.. ? Wish I would have installed them before I had all the pvc and sumps installed. Also bought an ADJ power strip with switches for each outlet so look forward to getting that in and getting it setup for power. Hope to have my drainage pvc glued up tomorrow and will follow up with pictures if I get it done.
